Guigsy
So, since i got my unfinished single project a year or so ago and ash got it up and running for me, and he did a great job. But it was a bit of a rush job to get it all mapped and running for suprapod. So i never had anyone take a very deep look at the car... well it slowly started developing problems and things went wrong. The ecu and dli getting fried being the most costly. Then it developed a misfire on boost. Then it started shredding aux belts. So before dragonball i booked it in, Hoping I would get it back in time for a quick visit to the bodyshop while i was away in florida. Well It didnt quite go down that way. So as a lot of people know i ended up not taking it on dragonball. So figured i would tell you all the story... I booked it in with Dan Turner at Advanced Motorsport and Engineering in at Silverstone, they have a great setup and do some awesome work and have some very interesting cars in. When i dropped it off they had a Aspira F620 sat in the workshop https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/183868_10150259429849259_6995131_n.jpg and when i picked it up today they had this 695 bhp supercharged viper https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/29695_399905984258_8204321_n.jpg They also upload pictures of the work they are doing onto facebook. So you can keep up to date with whats going on. Which i have never seen anyone else do and i love it. its great. Well, when i got up to take it in there was still snow on the ground. So I had to clear the snow off the car and doing so with my ice scraper i chiseled the Toyota badge off the front bumper... balls. Then i popped out to the local cash point and snapped my carbon greddy lip in half on a snow bank in the carpark... cock. So i left it with Dan feeling pretty sorry with myself and fed up with the car. I left him the following list. Fix misfire. I had got a set of good 2nd hand coil packs just in case. Fix the belt shredding issue that caused me to limp home from the previous dragon ball in Holland. Fix cold start. Fit new cam covers and catch can. Fix a leak fron the turbo drain. I baught Mr Whiffins oil drain kit for this. Looked like a nice piece of kit! A few days later Dan calls with some details. Compression on one of the cylinders was way down. It was like this when i first picked it up and ash fixed it. But if it was the same cylinder i don't know. So this news wasn't a big worry at the time. I let Dan get on with it and i got another call a few days later... One of the exhaust valves was bent and the head would need to be rebuilt. I toyed with the idea of getting a 2nd hand one but after weighing up the options and the risks i decided to have it rebuilt. By this point i was due to go away on holiday. So Dan was to message me on Facebook with any decisions that would need to be made. Despite checking Facebook daily while on holiday i didn't get a message. Which was odd. Then after about 8 days of being there i noticed Facebook wasn't alerting me of the new messages and had just filed them away! so now i was a week behind and very unlikely to get the car back for dragonball . Anyway i had the option of a port and polish or upgraded components. but due to the holiday credit card bills i knew i would have and the mounting cost of all the work i decided not to take that option and just go for the "standard" rebuild. Well in the meantime i decided as they had it off already the intake plenum was looking very scruffy. it has been painted in some odd black sticky paint. so i asked them to strip it and paint it. I returned from my holiday and work continued with regular updates on facebook and by phone. Which.. because we all like photos ill start posting. They took all the photos and iv linked from there facebook page so i hope you can all see them...

While i was there Dan raised a mild concern about the turbo. It felt ok when you held it and span the blades. but there seemed to be a little too much rumble for him to be 100% happy. So as i was on a day off i ran the turbo over to turbo technics in northampton who took a quick look and gave it the thumbs up. and the very slight rumble you could feel was just due to the lack of oil as its obviously off the car. At this point they were finding a lot of little things wrong with the car that will be outlined below. So i decided to just leave them to it and fix everything that needed doing! Apparently the bores are in good condition. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/970754_10151587026354259_1468443822_n.jpg head back and on. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/944213_10151587026349259_1595362756_n.jpg cams in https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/970414_10151587026329259_1328885786_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/21152_10151587026474259_1936931501_n.jpg They found this. It had been resting on the downpipe. Only the wrap on the downpipe has stopped it melting completely and spraying coolant everywhere! Its a 4" downpipe so there isnt much space back there. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/942476_10151600585309259_1371233132_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/320346_10151600585784259_1322619613_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/431908_10151600585884259_2011730141_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/7296_10151604040959259_472437110_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/575720_10151600585614259_158985723_n.jpg Plenum painted https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/5388_10151600585714259_264277045_n.jpg almost there https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/401865_10151600586019259_599408612_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/960182_10151604040929259_1771465810_n.jpg The cause of the fraying belt... This run was 1.2 bar and it hit 520 at the hubs. Click for the vid. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151693331868899 Its now running 1.4 but i forgot to ask what the final number was The car still has a little cold start niggle that Dan was sure he had nailed so im taking the car back and he will be fixing that FOC for me. Along with all the above its had a new set of plugs and a tonne of new gaskets. Also there was a couple of little oil leaks that were sorted out. But i dont remember where they were from off the top of my head. Im sure they also did some other bits and pieces. i cant remember. Ah yes. The oil pressure warning light on my SPA guage wasnt working. that was just a dry solder joint. which they fixed. and they also made my pillar pod allign up properly. So i drove the car to work after i picked it up yesterday and i it drives like a dream. Boosts great. and i feel like i can drive it and enjoy it with no feer of it blowing up like i always did before Edited June 13, 2013 by Guigsy (see edit history)
