supra_ufo
Lads I have given my turbo in for refurb and the bloke the part number as.... 17201-46020 which on his system is showing CT26 (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=33078&d=1144779962) After some research my j spec turbo should be a CT20A and not the above, could his system be wrong? The CT26 is from a MK3. Researched links... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?64660-CT12-vs-CT20A&p=781269#post781269 http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/specs.htm http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?229039-Which-Turbo-is-Which&highlight=CT12B
Swampy442
Thats correct, yours will be a CT20, the 26 is from the Mk3 Sup, Celica GT4, Hilux etc.

Nic
They are definitely the j-spec turbo part numbers on my other post. UK turbos are: FR 17201-46030 RR 17208-46030
supra_ufo
Quick update, the bloke (my best friends relative) is unable to source the parts for the refurb. :-( I have waited 3 weeks for him to say that after he had ordered the incorrect parts. I am going to try some local companies as there is a fair few around here. My 1st turbo is goosed without a doubt, however my 2nd turbo looks good, what would you guys do in my position? Refurb both turbos? Or just the one that's broken? I don't plan to sell, I plan to keep forever~! The car will be going BPU once its running right... 1st Turbo http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=170709&d=1370550424 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=170710&d=1370550424 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=170711&d=1370550424 2nd Turbo http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=170712&d=1370550424 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=170713&d=1370550424
Iky
Is there any play whatsoever in the 2nd turbo?
Nic
So your plan now is to get the turbo rebuilt? The turbo will need machining and new aftermarket internals fitting, you'll need both turbos rebuilding so that the turbine and compressor wheels - and so flow characteristics - are matched. Nic
Found this file the other day which includes a lot of useful information about the various Toyota turbos and rebuild parts.ToyotaTurbos.pdf
supra_ufo
I am just ringing around now trying to find someone local but I may have to use someone who has had experience in refurbing them as a few of the companies have said they cant source parts. cheers nic. Iky, The 2nd turbo seems fine but if what Nic said is true, it will need doing... Nic that PDF document does not reference the part number above in your screenshot... 17201-46021 FR 17208-46021 RR Another strange thing about that toyotadiy.com site, when I put my details in of my car, my turbo shows up as ...46020?? Weird, this is what caused my turbo guy to order the wrong part. Edited July 4, 2013 by supra_ufo (see edit history)

The 2nd turbo seems fine but if what Nic said is true, it will need doing... Rebuilt/hybrid turbos often suffer with premature seal/bearing wear, there have been many examples of this on here over the years. Forget finding someone local and don't just go with the cheapest quote. You need a good reputable turbo specialist who will give you a warranty on the rebuilt turbos. I'm sure there are a few members on here who will be able to share their experiences and recommend someone. supra_ufo
I have come across the following company http://www.crturbos.co.uk/ Who say they can supply parts and refurb fully with steel internals and 1 year warranty. He wanted 395+vat per turbo :-/ but I managed to barter him down :-) Has anyone used them before?
Nic
Do a company name search on Google, that usually throws up car forum threads on the subject.
mellonman
i used crturbos to do mine they lasted a year but where stage 3 hybrids and hit 1.5 bar which blew them, if i was you i would get a decent second hand set which would be alot cheaper and probably last just as long
Nic
I don't know the company you mention so this is a very general opinion. Make sure you fully understand what a warranty covers, a reputable company will always stand by their workmanship/products but there are far more companies out there sadly that will try wheedling their way out of any blame if something goes wrong. It is very easy to claim it was the car or drivers fault that the turbo failed prematurely. If it was me I'd do a lot of research, I'd get quotes from a number of different companies to compare, if you get a big variation in prices then I'd be asking myself why? is it the quality of components used; are they from a reputable turbo manufacturer or some cheap Chinese equivalent, machines used; is it some bloke on a lathe or do they have specialist equipment, testing, quality control, etc. etc. A turbine wheel spins at over 100K rpm so if it's going to last then the tolerances and quality control need to be VERY precise. Getting a cheap quote and knocking someone down on price is not always the best way. Edited July 4, 2013 by Nic (see edit history)
supra_ufo
I got a quote for like for like... Stock twins are difficult to come across, and I am getting very impatient.... I have had my car since Dec 2012 and it is driving me mad in the garage. I need BOOST! Nic I knocked him down because I said another company can do it for so and so and he was humming and harring for a bit. In the end he agreed, told him I would send more customers his way too. supra_ufo
I wasn't going to until mine have been working for at least a year :-) There are not many companies out there that can refurb them, I called 7-8 companies around Yorkshire and no one could do them.
