reeceu
In the final stages of my na to TT special and having issues getting it fired up. Off the key when ignition is on I have no fuel pump prime noise or starter motor to crank. The starter is fine as I can crank it with a power source. After I try and start it I also have a constant engine light on but it is a dull light. Has anyone got any ideas where to start or comman issues to look into first. Thanks in advance Reece Edited June 17, 2013 by reeceu (see edit history)
mellonman
Is your actual battery got power? Maybe a fuse
reeceu
Yeah battery is fine, had it fully charged. Fuse wise is there one that would control most of the issues or could I be unlucky and have a couple go. I will try and get a voltmeter in the fuse box tomorrow and see what it's saying! reeceu
Right still no joy. Fuses and relays checked. The efi relay and starter have constant power but when ignition is on the other contacts do not change. I am getting no power to the ecu. Would Putting a live wire to the battery wire on the harness help for diagnosis??? The dull engine light still stays on so no change there. Could I have done something silly like grounded incorrectly?
mellonman
does sound like something is earthing out check for trapped damaged wires and i would check fuses again especailly as you say the ecu has no power, - - - Updated - - - even loose pins on plugs
reeceu
Right little update managed to sort it BUT... Car fires for a couple seconds then dies, will not idle... Most probable causes???
mellonman
fuel pump issue ? can you here it prime? , try putting a jumper in the diognostic port under the bonnet b+ to fp which will give the fuel pump 12v constant feed, maybe your still running the stock n/a fuel pump ecu and its not man enough? mellonman
Right little update managed to sort it BUT... also maybe nice if you tell us what the problem was to help others that may have the same issue
reeceu
To sort the power issue it was a mix of checking grounds and adding in another engine ground to ensure the loom was all grounded properly as i traced it all and for some reason it only had 3 earths. I also changed the coolant temp sensor and crank position sensor to nice new ones!! I bought a walbro of a member ao i can come out full bpu, could be a chance that it has just given up. I can't here it prime so it was first on the agenda to get to this morning. I will get some contant power to it to check it and update. reeceu
Had a walbro 225 in there. Whipped it out and plugged the na one back in and she fired up fine!! Does this mean the 225 is no good or do I need to change the ecu?? i didn't know the ecu's were different if they are?

Darren at whifbitz fitted my walboro about a month ago while I was there, no ecu change was needed, that was from an n/a fuel pump too
Gpro
changing fuel pump has nothing to do with ecu. You sure the walbro was wired properly?
mellonman
fit the 225 and then bypass the ecu like i said before with the jumper in the doignostic port and see if it works then if it does then try the relay mod like this with my sexy wiring diagram http://www.mkiv.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?272714-12v-mod-will-this-work
