r2ck_p
Hi guys, been looking in to my 1st turbo issue today and looking for a split vacuum pipes. It would be very helpful if a few people could try something for me, Pull back the exhaust opening lever (found down by the exhaust manifold), pull towards the bulk head and realease do you get a hissing of air?? you will need to use a bit of muscle. Pic of what to pull. Cheers

dan294
Might be worth having a read of this Rick: http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35926-The-sequential-system
Swampy442
You should do, its a diaphragm, the hiss is the air being forced out of the diaphragm chamber.
Radio
That's brill dan. Its number 7 that's been butchered by someone in the past. The pipes had broken off the connections and been repaired by gluing in a straw (looks like the thin bit of pipe off a wd40 canister) plus the pipe had a small split at the end. will order a new VSV to see if it fixes it . If not keep checking. Martin found all this for us. Thanks to him. Ricks suning himself in greece at the mo with my daughter, so will whats app him. Cheers ray
DJT88
If your exhaust gas control valve is not operated by the VSV it will be shut. Therefor the second turbo won't get online fully. But turbo 1 should. But if turbo 1 isn't making any boost, the problem might be elsewhere. Check the IACV on the top near the back of the engine. If that one stays open then tubbie 1 looses all boost through #2 if I am correct.
Radio
The car backs off as soon as you put your foot down, so first turbo not working. it is the IAVC on the top you describe (number 7 on dans diagram) that has had some repair issues that we are going to change) hopefully this with new pipes to it will cure the problem. Thanks for your advice, all ideas are very welcome. Cheers mate. (rick is Greece so I am replying on his behalf) Ray
DJT88
Also try TTC mode. It tests the turbo's without all the valves and vacuum lines. Your turbo 1 could also be knackered of course. Hopefully not though.
Radio
How do you test in TTC mode, whatever that is. Cheers Ray
DJT88
http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/articles/andy.htm It opens the iacv and egcv all the time, so it works as one bigger turbo. Thus eliminating the sequential system from the equation, making it easier to diagnose the real problem. Normally this is only the case over 4000 rpm when the second turbo normally comes online. Read through the thread about the sequential system again until you understand what you're doing.
r2ck_p
Cheers for the replies. I pick up my new IACV and vacuum pipes on Saturday. As one of the vacuum pipes to the IACV had a hole in it, I am thinking the IACV is sticking open, meaning no 1st turbo. The turbo can be heard spooling but once gets to around 2,300 revs the acceleration starts to jerk and judder a lot. I am fitting the new IACV and vacuum pipes this weekend, so will let you know how it goes. Cheers
r2ck_p
Cheers pal, that eliminates that then, I thought I may have had another vacuum leak down there somewhere. You should do, its a diaphragm, the hiss is the air being forced out of the diaphragm chamber.
r2ck_p
I have fitted the new VSV (IACV) and vacuum pipes but no joy, the problem is still there. I have booked it in be looked at.
dan294
When were the plugs last changed and coil pack clips? I'm assuming Chris Wilson did them when he BPU'd it?
r2ck_p
When were the plugs last changed and coil pack clips? I'm assuming Chris Wilson did them when he BPU'd it? Yeah Dan, Chris did them when it went to BPU last year, both the plugs and coil pack clips. Checked the clips and they still look fine. I have booked it back in for Wilson to take a look as really need it back on the road.
DJT88
Hope you get it fixed. Did you try TTC mode yet? Would be good to rule out the whole sequential system.
r2ck_p
Problem finally sorted. Just in case anyone has a similar issue it was a wheel sensor problem, it wasn't giving out a strong enough signal for the RL TC. So the RL TC wasn't functioning correctly. Sensor now replaced and all is fine.
DJT88
Wow thats weird. Glad you got it fixed though.
