Big Mark
My girlfriend got me a voucher via group-on for an air con service and recharge for £24. When she went to book it the guy recommended her that due to the age of the car it would need an "Anti-Bacterial Purge" for an extra £20. I've never heard of this before, so is he spinning her a line or is this worth doing? Chris Wilson
Just what is the air con man planning to do to you, that requires he gives you an anti bacterial purge, first, pray tell? Please, no photos of the experience....
Big Mark
Thanks Chris, I've adjusted the grammar accordingly. Slight change of subject but I need a complete set of your fast road pads for my uk brakes, plus caliper pins (been advised to buy these just in case) and how much do you do front disks for? Chris Wilson
I can't beat the two Toyota dealer members on here who offer trade prices. By the time I pay the carriage to get them to you I make zero percent. So I sadly have to say if you want genuine discs, (and they are the best, in my experience), get them from a main dealer. I am very happy to sell you my fast road UK pads at £140 plus VAT a full car set, and stainless steel pad retaining pins at £32 plus VAT a full car set. I can offer free insured P&P on these, to a UK mainland postcode. Changing to stainless steel pins can save you some serious grief as the plain steel ones Toyota use can corrode in and be a nightmare to remove. Thanks. Hope the bacterial purge is fun
Big Mark
Thanks Chris, I'll be in contact next week to place an order. Think I may skip the anti-bac purge, unless someone tells me it's worth doing.
Chris Wilson
Joking aside, I can only assume he's talking about purging the heater box, cars with pollen filters can build up smelly bacteria around the filter. AFAIK none of the the Supra heater / air con boxes have any filtration, so I think a "purge" is a waste of time and money. I suspect it takes him a few seconds and has a remarkably good margin in it for the guy It'll have nothing to do with the gas charge in the system. I suspect he'll just check the high and low side pressures and "top up" with some more gas if it's low, or furtle about looking busy if it's not. It would be very surprising if it's a full evacuate, leave on vac for a few hours, and then re-charge the system for £24 Edited June 8, 2013 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
Big Mark
Thanks Chris, I think I'll decline his offer for an anti bac purge. I'll put the money towards some of my ever growing to-do list for my car.
