Guest Benny9
Hi All Just finished the bpu upgrade - decats (restrictor ring), fuel pump, spark plugs but didn't manage to fit the fcd without the slip cont sign flashing so will have to wait for my mate to have a look tomorrow. I decided to take it for alittle run anyway expecting it to fuel cut on full boost.....but nothing. Ran smooth as a nut. Question is, as i don't have a gauge until tomorrow to see what i'm actually running, i'm guessing boost pressure is still under 1 bar as no fuel cut? sorry if there's an obvious answer but i thought after fitting the decats boost pressure would raise between 1-1.2 bar without adjustment? any advice would be appreciated. DodgyRog
Depends on a few thing, but the main one is the restrictor ring size
Guigsy
Yeah depends on the size. And it varies from car to car. A 1.2 ring might be 1.0 on another car. You need a boost controller to raise the boost properly to avoid over boosting in winter.
Guest Benny9
Thanks guys. Going to fit the gauge tomorrow and get the boost controller asap.
Nic
I'd also double check the wiring from the ECU to see if it already has a FCD fitted, also check that the ECU is stock. I wouldn't drive it on full boost until you get the boost gauge fitted and know what's what.
Guest Benny9
Just fitted the gauge and taken her for a quick sprint and it seems to hold at 0.9, so at least i know why there was no cut and what i'm running. ecu is stock with no fcd installed yet, hopefully going to sort that tomorrow. My friends got a manual boost controller he offered to fit for me, I don't have experience with these, are they as reliable as an electronic one? cheers
Guest Budz86
Electronic is far better as you can adjust it easily and it will control the boost pressure more reliably. What boost controller have you got? Or is it just the gauge you have?

A mid to high end EBC will give you more control of the wastegate and help maximise performance/response of the turbos.
Guest Benny9
Hi Budz Just the gauge at the moment, i was going to have the manual gauge fitted as it is a freebe:) i hope it will be ok for a while until i splash out on an electronic one. Just wanted to ask what gain should i roughly expect from running bpu at 1.1 / 1.2 bar with adjustable cams and alloy pulleys ( i know all depends on cars current health) but as i have a healthy import i was hoping for 340/350 bhp? realistic? cheers

A healthy 2JZGTE with stock turbos at 1.2bar should make around 380-400hp at the flywheel, removing the cats and upping the boost makes a significant difference to how quickly the turbos spool up and really brings the car to life, you won't be disappointed. Guest Benny9
Hi All My friend who was fitting my FCD called Fensport as he was having trouble getting it to work without setting the slip cont light flashing and was told the HKS FCD won't work with an auto box? also said it wouldn't fuel cut below 1.2 bar so fcd not needed? does this sound right? am a little confused. Cheers.
Scott
Suck it and see. No harm in hitting fuel cut.... it's just scary MBC is all that's required. If you get to the stage where you want to fine tune your boost then go EBC, as it will produce a better initial power hike. Top end it's all the same though. Nemesis
I've got a HKS fcd and am running an auto. Had a couple of days between bpu and fitting the fcd and hit fuel cut a few times around 1 bar. IIRC that's where the AFR guys said it would hit. Not scary really, well maybe the first time.

Guest Benny9
Biggest load of rubbish ive heard... That's what i thought after reading the posts on the forum regarding fuel cut etc. Does anyone have any pics of their ecu wired up to the HKS FCD for me to check against please? my mate wired it up as per instructions, car starts fine but the slip cont light flashes? any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers
suprasurrey
Have you or your mate checked that the HKS FCD has been set to No9 on the rotary switch?
Guest Benny9
Finally figured out we wired it up incorrectly, going to sort it out tomorrow now. Another restless night waiting for extra bhp glory Do you know what cams are fitted? Cams + alloy pulleys are going to be fit tomorrow, as they are freebies from my mate i haven't seen them yet, i know they were purchased off ebay. Any dodgy brands i should stay away from?
