r2ck_p
Hi Guys, took my Supra out 3 days ago it was fine. Drove it to work this morning and as soon as the 1st turbo comes in even at low RPM or low speed, the car gets very jerky. Out of turbo the car is fine. The car doesn't get used much. Chris Wilson changed the Coil Pack Clips while it was down there in October 2012 for BPU. Any ideas on what should be checked first. thetrashcanman
Sounds like it isn't boosting correctly if at all, have you checked all the boost hoses and the VAC lines I believe there called as well? And have you got a boost gauge to check what it's boosting too?
Gpro
very jerky as no power? like hitting redline rpm feel?
r2ck_p
very jerky as no power? like hitting redline rpm feel? Thanks for the responses. I have just spent the last couple of hours looking at the issue, checked the hoses, check my coil pack clips (fitted in Oct 2013 - by CW) all looks fine. Unplugged them, and the pins and plastic are all fine. The car is perfect on idle with no issues, its perfect when driving with no turbo, as soon as the 1st turbo comes in, the problem starts. Gpro- Yes exactly like that, but I am at 2-3K revs. It feels like its spluttering/choking up. thetrashcanman - checked all the hoses that I can see from the top of the engine that are in and around the turbos. The car is BPU but I don't have a boost gauge. It was set with the restrictor ring and checked with a boost gauge at time of install to ensure no overboosting. I would of fitted a boost gauge at the time, but the one I supplied wasn't the right diameter to fit in the vent, so we left it for a future date. Nic
If it's hesitating when the first turbo comes online my first guess would be a vacuum hose has popped off or has split, also check all the intercooler hoses. Do a search in the FAQ section for 'sequential' there are a few threads in there explaining the sequential system and troubleshooting. Does the engine rev properly when stood out of gear? thetrashcanman
In which case unless you can find the boost leak from one of the hoses, I would suggest from your response to gopro's question, that maybe the 1st turbo has gone, but I am no expert, so I would wait for a few other opinions before a definite conclusion, can you actually get past the first turbo onto the second turbo? If not then it could be the actuators are not working properly :S
listy
I had this exact problem not long ago. I changed the coil pack clips, spark plugs, gave the coil packs a clean, and changed all the vacuum hoses, and the problem seems to be gone. Sorry I can't help more than that, but I did it all at the same time.

Hi Nic, the car revs fine while stood out of gear (in park) with no problems. I will take another look at the car tomorrow night after work and check the intercooler hoses. If anyone has an engine bay pic / diagram of all the vacuum hoses I should check, that would be helpful as I am new-ish to the Supra only had it 10 months. listy
I just changed the usual ones people do when they dress the engine. I bought a selection of sizes from SFS. I'll try and find a link.

The jerking/juddering gets pretty bad, so I let off the accelerator which allows it to clear. I don't really want to put more power on in case I damage something. listy
http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/vacuum.asp I bought a pack at JapFest with 4 sizes in it, but can't remember what sizes off the top of my head. I replaced all the ones turbo side that weren't reinforced hoses.

mellonman
this sound similar to what i was getting , check the wires to the coil packs as well for damage , its just taken me a year to find my intermitant misfire
Swampy442
Does sound like a missfire under load which would lead to coil packs if the clips are new, or spark plugs.
r2ck_p
Nic - cheers for the links, I will take a look Mellonman - I did notice that one of the sheathing on one of the wire to the coil pack had a slit in it but the cable inside seemed fine. I tried to tape it up but it hasn't made a difference. I check all the rest of the wires that go in to the coil pack clips and all looks fine with the rest. Swampy - Yes definitely under load, as its fine when revved on the spot out of gear. The car had new BPU spark plugs last October at the same time as the new coil pack clips. The coil packs themselves have not been changed. Cheers
