Mapping, fuel and detonation

Just wondering, if you have a setup that pushes c.500bhp and it is mapped for 95RON fuel, would using 97 or 99 RON be beneficial / offer additional protection against det or the fact that its been mapped to take account of running 95RON be ok?

Just interested in hearing people's thoughts on this.

Probably....

Come on dude, we need more info to give an answer, what engine, CR, boost, turbo???

Higher RON will give a more stable explosion in the cylinder and so you're less likely to see detonation, but if you're getting det then something else is wrong anyway...

It would probably work as a safeguard against over-boosting in colder weather, but I'd not want to rely on it.

Thanks gents. :)

I was just curious as it was a comment I saw made on a Skyline forum and the point being made there was that notwithstaing the fuel a 500bhp car was mapped for, putting in higher RON fuel in any case, whether the car was mapped for it or not, would help with det.

I just wanted to see what the 1JZ / 2JZ guys thought about it, so posted it all up here :)
