Stupid clutch

Rummy

Recommended Posts

So worst nightmare..bang! Clutch pedal hits the floor and stays there....on a roundabout...in rush hour. Winner.

Managed to limp it to a bus layby where the contents of the cylinder decide to empty out. There was fluid in the master to begin with with no signs of leakage around it so am I right in thinking this is the slave that's given up as the master is empty now. If so, does anyone know where I can get a slave cylinder complete ( I don't want to redo the seals just want it all new or nearly new) rapido?

I have a jspec getrag 6sp and a rps streetmax clutch with southbend pressure plate if that's any help.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure it's not the rubber pipe that goes to the slave cylinder. When using an uprated clutch these can usually show signs of weakness. If it is the slave cylinder that gone then Mr T is the best place if its the pipe the Paul at garage whiffbitz does a nice braided one that is good.

If it went with a bang I'd start by looking at the release fork; it may have cracked. From memory, I think that if the release fork isn't there, there is nothing to stop the slave piston from leaving its cylinder which will quickly empty the fluid.

I'd really recommend having a look to see what has broken before buying replacement parts. I've learned that lesson the hard way!

The bracket that holds the release fork inside the bell housing broke

Guys, cheers for that! You know, it could well be that as there was a brief rattle as soon as it went....FFS!

Well this is what I was greeted with upon removing the inspection plate!

The bracket had indeed snapped!

After mine broke, I did a web search and found that this has happened to a lot of people. Should be a 100k maintenance item I think.

If I can find it in the bottom of a bag, I have that part and clutch fork which I removed from my car yesterday as I no longer need it.

Agreed. This seems quite common with updated pressure plates too

Legend. Steve that would be great. Let me know how much you want if you find them.

  • 1 year later...

Rise from the dead, thread!!

I've just had the clutch fork bracket go on my car. What a PITA.

I have an RPS Street max clutch and you do need a leg like the hulk to use it.

Clearly I need to replace the bracket. Anyone know the part number, or know anywhere that does a billet ali version? Seems like these need to be uprated with the clutch.
