EU / UK Spec Twin Turbo rebuild

prosty

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Who in the UK or maybe someone here on the forums can rebuild my USDM (same as Euro / UK spec) Stock Twin Turbos?

Can someone give me an estimate or a point of contact so I can check for myself?

Tried a search but it's hard to sort out the results.

I live in Sweden so I have to send my turbos to you and then the turbos back to me ofc :)

regards

Markus

No I want them stock. New seals and bearings and an overhaul ofc. But the turbos are in fine working order, just a bit of shaft play but no smoke.

Same issue when buying second hand as the ones that I already have.. I'm pushing my twins hard so I need them to be fresh.

From memory the difference in having them rebuilt stock, or slightly uprated is minimal - around 100 per unit iirc. There have been some problems with the updated ones though - people have seen them pop with very low mileage. Try CR turbos, but I'd be tempted to pick up a second hand set for 200-300.

Yeah I've e-mailed the two biggest builders, they are _costly_ to say the least. If I look in the US the prices are about a third of what I have to pay here at home.

We're small countries in Scandinavia so less sources here.

A small amount of shaft play is normal, if the turbos are not smoking and the turbine/compressor wheels are okay, I would leave them alone. Rebuilt/hybrid turbos regularly suffer from premature bearing and seal wear, if you do get them rebuilt then make sure you get a good warranty on them.

Yeah but 20-22 PSI will make them suffer a bit :)

Anything above 1.2bar/18psi and the turbos are getting out of their efficiency range, they'll generate a lot of heat for negligible gains. If you're going to run that sort of pressure then you'll need a good quality ducted intercooler and water injection to keep charge temps down, you'll also need an ECU mapped to run at those pressures safely.
