Belt squeal - crank pulley? (video)

My Supra is making a horrible squeal that is driving me crazy, I have just had the aux belt changed in the last few weeks so I know it is not that. The pulleys look ok to me and are not wobbling from what I can tell, when I accelerate the noise gets louder until the engine drowns it out - at idle it barely makes a noise. From what I have searched on here it seems like it is a dodgy crank pulley.

I've attached a video if anyone could diagnose or suggest what to check as I need to get it fixed before it explodes or I do!!

Put a line of tippex across the face of the crank pulley to see if

its separating

You could also take the aux belt off and see if the noise stops

and if it does it narrows the search down to what the belt drives.

Diagnosis is a split crank pulley, had a look and there was a bit of play in it. Got a new one on order from Whiftbitz and booked in to be replaced tomorrow

There is a bit of noise on start up from the power steering pump but nothing to shout about for now

Does the noise disappear when the engine heats up?

Ok mate, mine makes that horrible noise when the car is left for a significant amount of time without being used but then when used it disappears and doesnt reoccur unless left again.

From the power steering pump? Yeah it is only really on a cold start it moans for a bit and then settles down! On a different note, that strut brace I bought from you has now been promoted to the front as its not aerotop friendly but it compliments my new engine bay perfectly!

70mph (ish..)
;) :D

Good save mate, when mine came apart at 70mph (ish..) parts of it smashed the alternator straight off its mountings and sheared some of the other pulleys apart.

I have been pushing it down the motorway recently as well, I'm bricking it about getting it to the garage tomorrow - low boost, RLTC set to wet mode and keeping it in D with overdrive on to help keep the RPM as low as possible - oh, and crossing my fingers :D

My previous TT made exactly the same noise for about a few months before one day the pulley sheared. Though I was the lucky few where it came apart & didn't cause no damage. The noise also only happened every now and then on cold starts & then went away, like you I put it down to the aux belt which it wasn't!!
