Iv been looking for a soop for sometime now, But one thing i need to sort out is insurance, i know loads of people have said sky are cheep, Iv had a quote of them, Im 23, 5years ncb, no convictions or points and they quoted me £1950!!!!, im sure iv heard people say they got cheaper with less ncb's. Kopite
Keep tryin mate, there's plenty of people our age with jspecs - PM Garetheves, think he's quite young too. Don't forget to put your mum and dad etc on the policy (unless they've got dodgy drivin records )
Guest chiefvinso
I think location plays a big part in the cost too. If you have bros, sisters etc living in different areas try online quotes with the different areas and see how much difference there is. My grandparents and parents lived less than 5 miles apart but my parents address was 80 quid cheaper. BTW that was on a rev 3 mr2 turbo. GeordieSteve
Sky don't like young drivers obviously. Didn't want to know when I rang
Kopite
Sky never bothered to ring me back after i rang them twice
Steve
Sky was £350 more expensive than my renewal with elephant.

Homer
Sky was £350 more expensive than my renewal with elephant. Mate, how on earth did you declare some of your mods with Elephant. I have it in writing from them that they will not insure any car with a BOV. They can also only list 6 modifications and these are not covered for replacement if damaged. Suggest you check your policy asap! After my experience with them I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
Whitelightning
Sky for me (32yrs old pushing 10 !) Its comforting to know that getting old need not mean getting ripped off.
peter richards
i dont want to be negative about this topic , because some members have obviously tried hard to sort something out , which we should appreciate . but i think this sky company realises there is big bucks to be had from our younger members , and the not so young . the quote they gave me was nearly double my renewal , and mentioning i am a mkiv member didnt seem to make any diference . cardiff mate, get the yellow pages out , i know its a pita but you never know . hope you get it sorted :thumbdown
green_dragon
Just paid my renewal with Bell Direct, £730 inc. mods 25 yrs old, 6 yrs NCD, Me and my good lady fully comp, Jap TT, Exhaust, Air filter, Wheels. Give them a try, I've been with them for 5 yrs now. They seem ok although, I've never had to claim.
Homer
Peter, I'm very surprised your quote was so high as you're not exactly in the high risk age group (Please don't take that the wrong way ) I heard that when you call Sky you MUST speak to Jay or you won't get the discount, maybe Mawby could confirm? Out of interest what do you pay now? Edited to add: I agree with what you say, there seems to be a big gap for the younger drives. Though the value of these cars has dropped significantly in the last year the insurance prices remain the same... Maybe its something to do with the 'potential to do damage' thing... LeeT
SKY quoted me £1296. last year i paid £400. 4 YRS NCB 1 accident, 28 years old :thumbdown . IMHO they are not worthy as an official supra club insurer. they save some people money, yes. but no more than they would have saved if they shopped around a bit. we as a whole deserve a decent discount. oh and according to sky my car is an RZ as all UK cars are . enduroace1
Sky quoted me £10 more than flux so i stayed with flux @ £420 and thats with 6 points and mods.
Homer
sky quoted me £10 more than flux so i stayed with flux @ £420 There's two major reasons why I would pay more to go with Sky (well, a few hundred anyway): 1) They insure like-for-like replacement of modified parts 2) They give a guarenteed value of the car You only need to look at Jaymdee's recent claim to see why the no.2 is so important! BrianBunning
Im with Flux at the mo just got my renewal through for £1400 I called Sky and they have given me a quote for £950 thats with some more benefits than flux i.e. protected no claims, like for like on mods and guaranteed value
Homer
I see insurance as a product I am buying for my car. Most of us lavish vast amounts of money on the best quality products for our car. We don't go and buy the cheapest fuel, the cheapest oil, the cheapest remould tyres - we look for a product that is appropriate for our car and in almost all cases this means we are prepared to pay much more than we could for the cheapest option available. Insurance is the same. Once we weed out the rip-off companies, Insurance policies generally reflect the quality of the product being sold. Sky insurance may cost more for some of us but then we pay for a better quality product IF something goes wrong.

Homer
I hear what you're saying Lee and totally agree, something is messed up with the quote you got. I heard they don't make any differentiation between the UK/import thing so maybe a quote that’s good for a Jspec owner appears crap for a UK owner... Just a guess, but maybe something Mawby can take up with them?
