As most of you know that they are many bov's to choose from, they are two main types ,the ATMOSPHERIC one and the RECIRCULATING one.

I heard that on some cars the atmospheric one is not suitable as the boost pressure is lost and and so this fools the ECU or MAF.(as the engine has lost boost/air,)

We have a HKS sqv on the supe and a recirculating one on the saab(which cannot have atmospheoc valve,as it fools the ecu), so which is better on the supra?(does the MAF/ECU get fooled or mislead on atmosph. valves on the supra?)

Help appreciated!

The J-spec is MAP not MAF so there is no issue with dumping to atmosphere.

Alex,

what is the difference mechnically between the MAP &MAF that makes one suitable for atmosphere dumping then the other.

Sorry for sounding dumb.....but cheers for the help!

One measures air pressure and adjusts the fueling

One measures air flow (mass) and adjusts the fueling by its readings.

The MAF in the UK/US/Euro version is mounted in the Pre-turbo (or it might be post turbo?!) pipework. The MAP sensor is in the Intake manifold.

The BOV AFAIK sits before the MAP sensor in the pipework. But it sits after the MAF.

I think that's correct - I haven't looked at a UK spec in depth....

The MAF is just after the air filter and I think I am correct in saying has a MAP as well.

Cheers for the info guys, does that mean that uk spec cars have thier BOV mounted differently to the J-spec ones?(I think they have ,but not 100%)?

BOV is in the same place on both....its the MAF that can lead to different results from the j to uk spec cars.

Bottom line. They are safe to use. The HKS SQV is IMO the best.
