Sharpie
The car would be lighter, faster and more reliable Remove the UK scoop and it would probably be quicker too! - Less wind resistance!!! JohnA
Remove the UK scoop and it would probably be quicker too! - Less wind resistance!!! I'm not sure if the Cd=0.33 claim is for the US TT without the scoop, it could well be 0.34 with the little fella on top. But after seeing the underbonnet temps stabilise at ambient+30C (at the very best) I would be in no rush to junk the scoop. There is a lot of metalwork expanding down there... Matt Harwood
Dave I want a middle finger 'birdie' smilie! Pete, John, Although it was a joke primarily aimed at Dave, I still wouldn't stick one on my car ayway Anyway, back on topic. Diff collers. Anyone see any reason why it's needed/should be kept? - Or more to the point, is there any documented evidence that the rear diff needs a cooler? Sharpie
OK - to be fair, I was caught napping on one of the starts... http://home.btconnect.com/mkivsupra/Bovingdon/DoNotShowMattH.jpg

I do a lot of Track driving and although the car might not need a diff cooler, i like to know nothing is getting too hot so im not going to be ditching mine any time soon
Matt Harwood
All I'm asking is if there is a reason why it's there. My car gets a really hard time, and I have no diff cooler, nor have I ever seen reason to fit one.
JohnA
I guess an indication would be the state of rear diff gearoil when you change it.
Matt Harwood
I've changed quite a few over the years, and most of them look good. Some even look like they've only just been done. There have been a couple that have come out as black as the ace of spades, but they may have never been changed from new.... Mine was last changed about 3 years ago. I'll change it later, just to see...
JohnA
If it looks fresh after a year's hard driving, then I guess the cooler would be dead weight...(yet another thing to go wrong, too!)

Bobbeh
I suspect its on there for the same reason as why the bonnet scoop etc is on a UK car, simply to ensure no failures during sustained high speed runs.

Homer
Matt on a serious note.....is there a specific oil to put in the diff? SAE 75W/90 is the stuff for the LSD diff. Silkolene Silktran SYN 5 has been recommended many times, seems to work fine for me.
JohnA
Yeah, it's easy to think that you need the special 'LSD' oil, but if you think about it the Torsen inside is just an ordinary diff (for lubricating purposes) full of gears.
JustGav
I've got 2 bottles of silkolene Syntrans which will be going into the Cusco Diff on the drift supra.... figured I'd put it in since it does take a pounding and it was recommended...
