thetrashcanman
For once i think people listened to the "Please no NA jokes" in the first post I had the same problem with my old NA thinking about it now, except my 2nd cat caught fire! Luckily I was outside Spar when i noticed, ran in, grabbed a bottle of water, shouted "I'll pay in a minute" ran to the car, and put it out! Then went back in to pay and explain Once I put a decat in, never had a drama again. However, I did find out later the exhaust manifold was blowing, but dont know if it was connected or not. Ha! I totally missed that, my bad. On a slightly different note, I loved my N/A they are great car's, to my mind they are the equivalent of the GT86 now, not much power, but lots of fun to drive and James if the car's running rich I take it you've checked both of the O2 sensors on the manifold? Even if you take them off and soak them overnight in lemon juice for a while to help them, it massively transformed my fuel consumption. Although if your's is eating Cat's I would suspect it might be something else as opposed to the 02 sensors, hope you get it sorted though Edited June 27, 2013 by thetrashcanman (see edit history)
Digsy
Yes this is a concern she does seem to be running a bit rich, smelling a bit petrolly at the minute which might have cooked the Cat, which could be a result of the aftermarket air filter and no air intake temp sensor. I would say so. The ECU uses the manifold pressure sensor and intake air temp sensor to work out the mass of air going into the engine, and thus how much fuel needs to go in there with it
