supra_ufo
Yes it is a bit of a nightmare but the MOT has been passed, car is insured and the turbo, well at least I know where I stand...If i had paid money for the car then I wouldnt be pleased. By the looks of it ts only the 1st turbo that seems to be broken. The 2nd turbo seems to be in good condition. What I dont understand is why the 2nd turbo would not kick in if it looks good? Does anyone have any ideas? How would the 1st turbo get to this condition, it looks fooked and might explain the funny noises 1st Turbo 2nd Turbo
Kirk
Oh yes that first turbo is caput.
Iky
you finally managed to get them off then Good lad. That 1st turbo is a lot more fooked than I would have expected. Exhaust wheel is worn to hell. All that oil, I am very surprised it wasn't smoking like hell.
Ian C
Yeah, that's pretty broken If the 1st turbo isn't producing boost, it's going to be because it isn't spinning. When #2 tries to produce boost, it goes down the path of least resistance which is backwards through the 1st turbo and back into the unpressurised atmosphere. That's why you see no boost. supra_ufo
I had to send my turbo off to another company and should hopefully get them back by the end of next week. I am going to get some bits from toyota, nuts bolts etc and gaskets. The parts I will replace are... 6 x Nuts and Bolts on the piece that has both turbos strapped on that joins to the manifold 2 x Gaskets for the water pipes Coolant (I already have new toyota red in the system that I drained and filtered back in the OEM bottles) Im planning on doing a service, do people recommend doing this before or after installation of the turbos? Someone told me that its best to get the car running at normal temp before dropping the oil. I have replaced all vacumm pipes, is there anything else I am missing/people recommend to replace? Kirk
If you drop the oil whilst it's cold it will be a lot thicker so you may not get all the old oil out. Just service it once you've put it back together.
supra_ufo
My refurbished turbo got delivered from CR Turbos on Friday I need a bit of advice... When I put everything back together, hopefully be starting it tomorrow...do I need to pump oil around the car before I start the car? (cranking the car?) If yes how do I do this? The Toyota manual says I need to add "fresh oil" and turn the turbo wheel however am I right in thinking the turbo company would of already done this? What is the best method please? Swampy442
Easiest way to prime it is to remove the EFI fuse and crank the car over for 30 seconds or so, to make sure you get a good pressure build up and flow of cleanoil through it Good luck

supra_ufo
Turbos are now in and the car appears to be working as normal :-) Loving it. Thanks for everyone's help. Thanks Iky. Btw the car boosts to 0.5BAR is that normal? Im running a depo racing boost gauge.
Kirk
0.5 bar is below factory boost levels. Should be about 0.76 bar.
supra_ufo
I'll have to look at it again, its difficult to watch that whilst your car is going fast...lol Ill check my gauge hoses again just incase there lose.
