So I thought I would finally get round to writing up a bit of a build thread. Started my car last Monday, to do a few freshen up jobs ahead of japfest. But things escalated as they always do. Been meaning to get this up sooner but had no time!

 

When I first had purchased the car in 06 it was full veilside a very polarising kit, but to be honest the car didn't look to bad.

I replaced the wheels shortly after

And then the mahoosive spoiler but always wanted to change the kit

But sadly after going bang in 2008 and taking me a long time to save to get her rebuilt, forged n uprated components later it was completed in 2010. But because of this set back and cost things went a stray.

The bodywork got very tatty, had issues with my hks hipermax 2's a canon for an exhaust and the naff j spec brakes were needing a change.

 

So japfest was a good excuse to start with fixing it up. After most parts were ordered and on route for the project. She went into the bodyshop to resolve the problems. The Failside kit was removed and the skirts were test fitted to the car.

Removed the lights and spoilers

And set about finding the flaws and dents. And there was a few. So sorted them and rubbed the filler and paint down

Next was to degrease and clean the brakes I purchased off a forum member

Then a good sanding ahead of paint. My strut brace feet make an appearance to

My new whifbitz exhaust turned up

And next to arrive was my new meister r zeta r's coilovers

All the while my wheels were at the shotblasting and powder coaters. getting the corrosion off and then a base powdercoat before they get sprayed. So had to get them as it was a tight schedule

This weekend just passed was all about the mechanics so got up Saturday to make a start. List of jobs was fit coilovers, paint and fit uk brakes, fit the exhaust. Change drivers side front lower control arm, a service and a few small things.

Started with painting the brakes. Got them tied up and started applying the coats. Went with Toyota Electra Blue.

Then after they had dried I applied the decals and the clearcoat. Look alot better than the red.

As they were drying I moved on to the control arm. Wasn't to bad to get off

And replaced the knackered one.

 

And Then on to the coilovers. Took the old hks hiper d's off

They had seen much better days

Replaced with the meister r's, finally a threaded shock for easy height adjustment. That was it for the day

Sunday first up was the exhaust. Swapped the old cannon for a whifbitz variant.

Cleans the back end up nicely. The old one was silly big

Then onto fitting the brakes. Took off the old j specs.

And cut the old guards, to accommodate the bigger disks

Then put the calipers on.

I've obviously simplified as these take ages to write! Here's the finished article.

That was it for the day, I needed to get tyres on my front wheels. As the old wheels won't clear uk front calipers.

Monday, I had the front tyres put on so I could get the car rolling and off the ramp. The next two days, in my spare time, were spent prepping the body

Takes me to today. on to the bumper fiberglassed, and rubbed down

And primed.

Also managed to prep the engine cover and windscreen panel for a fresh cost of paint.

Finally Got the car in the booth masked up and ready for paint.

My mot is booked for Friday afternoon. Going to be a couple of busy days. As I have to paint, detail. Put all the parts back on and shadow chrome my wheels. Easy?!?! :)

First job was to get on with the painting so laid down the paint.

Then as that was drying, I started rubbing down the primer on the bumper.

A few hrs and arms like Popeye later it was done

Then as the car was dry by now, demasked it and rolled it out the booth to do a final test fit on the bumper.

Then in to the booth for painting

Next up was the strut Brace feet and engine cover.

And finally the wheels. They were powdercoated black as a base layer, after having them stripped and bead blasted. As Vortex r's had shocking build quality and corrosion was a plenty. So flatted down the powder coat for a base layer of black.

The reason being was I was trying a new paint system from specialist paints a shadow chrome. Not very shadowed but look nice in the flesh

Then a final cost of laquer

This is how she sits ready for a busy day tomorrow but did manage to get the spoilers on.

Quality stuff indeed! Can't wait to see this all back together - the wheels will look great.

 

Thanks bud. It's been a bit of a marathon but it is coming together now. I'm looking forward to seeing the wheels in the natural light. I'm pleased how they have turned out. Especially after what they used to be like :taped:

I've had Vortex Rs before and as you say they corrode badly and ferociously once they've started. Lovely looking wheel though.

 

Yes they do. They are the lepers of the wheel world!

 

 

I have vortex r's as well and they need a refurb, according to the bloke I spoke too they are crap for having laquer problems .

 

Great thread though I enjoyed reading it and nice photo's as well, top work :thumbs:

 

Thanks alot :) and Yes he's right mate. The laquer was very weak with a poor bond. Especially to the polished lip. My wheels had defects in the laquer after just a month on the road. Even the paint underneath was poorly done. My wheels had the paint coming off in sheets in the end. Which was a shame for such a nice looking wheel
