Swampy442
Problem with the autos is many people judge them before they actually drive them. Its a fine gearbox and responds quickly to kickdown requests. People are just stigmatised into thinking the manual is instantly better.

Scooter
I've had (nearly) all the transmission types, NA 5 speed and 6 speed NA and TT, auto na and auto TT.....just the tiptronic to go! Also test drove an IS300 a short while ago. The NA auto box in operation is just like the IS300 apart from it lacking that one extra gear, but it's as smooth changing and usable. The supra auto's have never annoyed me, all they lack is what every auto does and that's the playfulness/control isn't quite there. Real world straight line and the transmission in an NA makes little difference, same with the TT's, but pushing on and track day type stuff is more enjoyable with the manual cars. I was a manual only type, went NA 5 speed, Uk TT6, and then NA 6 speed, only getting an auto when an TT aerotop came up that I liked and tbh from then on I viewed the auto's differently. If you can get quoted on a tt I'd check some auto ones out that are at the 4-5K mark, as what I do know is that a TT had/has the proper wow factor performance wise. I would add that i'm currently in a NA auto Aerotop the slowest Supra there is! and whilst I'm getting old and less power hungry the car gets a good blat at times and is still nice to throw about. It won't see off much but in isolation its still fun and a nice way to get around. Edited May 5, 2013 by Scooter (see edit history)

That helps alot mate at least I know it would be similar to the Lexus If I did get the auto but still think I'd prefer a manual now but when and if mine goes ill have to see what's around
