Leaking Radiator...Do i need a new one?

My MOT happens to be tomorrow so I was giving the car a visual once over, and noticed that it was leaking coolant from underneath the car!

It appears to be coming from the passenger side above where the sensor goes in. See picture. The tube on the left is the bleed valve and tube. Is it new radiator time? There has been no leaks from here before, seems to be coming out more once the car gets to 90c.:(

Looks like there is signs of coolant around that whole area. It will always find it's way to the lowest points and drip from there so may not be from the drain plug at all. Have a real good look around all over the rad and confirm where the coolant is coming from before jumping in with rad replacement.

You can get the rad rebuilt, which should be cheaper than getting a new one, had one rebuilt for £60 in 2004 for a different smaller car. Should cost a little more these days and supra has a larger rad. Search radiator repair, I went to the one in Birmingham Digbeth area.

Sensor has not been removed....I went to the MOT centre they had a look at it and said its screwed, it was coming from the sides, they told me to fix it and come back for an MOT lol. They suggested to have it refurbed too. I might take it off tomorrow and take it to a refurb place on Tuesday. Failing that what do people suggest apart from OEM which will be very costly. Are the alloy ones any good? Fleebay sell some, I know SRD sell them too but I would also need a gearbox cooler as mine is an auto and we are talking £300+...

btw, drove the supra for the first time :D... It was niiiice. There was a lot of whistling and hissing going on which is normal?? I obviously wasn't ragging it due to the leak.

I'd imagine the hissing is the coolant leak and advise you get it fixed

rather than drive it, normal driving is as bad if you have a coolant leak

as the water temp will still rise along with the pressure and you will

just keep losing coolant.

The mkiv has an aluminium alloy head and if overheated can warp and become

scrap very quickly

Have you used them before Dunk? I wonder if they could do my smic?

I have used them for radiator re cores and they have always done a very good, not had

an intercooler done though, they could be worth giving a call and see what they say

On a side note, have you checked the condition of the front cross member the radiator sits on? I've heard stories of these going pretty rotten on Supras with leaking radiators as the water must drip down and rot it away.

Infact I think DNK had his replaced on his black Supra that recently sold?

Mine seemed pretty good dnk.

I have replaced the radiator and all seems well under the car, went to the petty station which is about a mile drive....as ive only been in a supra once my car sounds scary for a stock engine, and I am unsure if i have a problem or not.

When in boost, cruising between 30-40, i think around 3k RPM (when ever the turbo kicks in) it just makes a whinnnnnnnnnnnneeeee noise, sounds like when you have a vacuum cleaner on and you cover the end just leaving a slight gap.... I need to take a video of it really but surely this is not normal? Also this whine noise must be heard from outside as as driving some girls turned to look (my exhaust is stock), either that or they were slappers lol

My uncle said that its always made that noise, but I dont believe him considering he said the front indicators were fine and after a 4 page thread it turned out to be the wrong front bulb/wiring.
