matthewswinimer
hi there i will be switching to ttc and wondering if the 12v fuel pump mod is needed? ive read it burns up fuel pumps...and after buying a walbro dont really wanna burn it up.but i dont wanna run lean either during the transition the fuel pump makes from 8v to 12v either. ps i do have a greddy fcd installed already if that matters thanks in advance for your comments! matthewswinimer
Sorry what's ttc? I take your a Tt and not an na/t? ttc stands for true twin conversion. its when both turbos spool together rather then 1 and the 2nd kicks in after(sequential) and yes iam factory tt
Marco79
ttc stands for true twin conversion. its when both turbos spool together rather then 1 and the 2nd kicks in after(sequential) and yes iam factory tt Wow never heard that before! That's not normally beneficial due to the extra lag. Normally only na/t guys use the 12v mod so can't help you on a Tt I'm afraid. Anyone else shed anymore light on this? matthewswinimer
main reason iam switching over is to reduce stress on the 2nd turbo...have read alot of horror stories of the 2nd turbo going to pieces due to the sudden smash it gets from the sequential operation
shifted
A lot of people by-pass the fuel controller to run 12v here, can't remember why though. Will be interested to see how you go as I was going to to by-pass it in fault testing but never got around to it.
mellonman
the only reason to use the 12v mod is to make a larger pump work correctly a 300lph walbro is fine with stock set up! i had to do the mod to get my 400lph walbro working but that could of also been a bad fuel pump imobilser wire earthing out so to sum up you should be fine with the stock set up
Pig
IIRC TTC can run ever so slightly lean at 1 points but nothing to worry about. 12v fuel pump mod would not be required in the situation and would prob be advised against as it ca reduce the life of a pump. Toyota got it so right, I would suggest only changing what you have to. Please have a quick search as its been many years since I was TTC. listy
The only real benefit people have seen by going TTC is when they have had it running on an aftermarket ecu. In the UK the best results have been found by running TTC and a Syvecs ecu. I can't think of anyone that has liked the performance from TTC on a stock ecu. Maybe something to consider. Or....if you are worried about the second turbo having a hard life, swap tubby 1 and tubby 2 over, so they both get even wear.

Ian C
If anything it's the first turbo that gets all the abuse as it runs all the time, the second one only above 4000rpm. There is a prespool system that brings it in but that's only to stop all the boost from #1 disappearing backwards through #2 when it comes online. The idea of somehow "smashing" #2 is ridiculous in the first place though, they are built to spin up as fast as possible, that means less lag. The valve opening to expose #2 to exhaust gas is exactly the same as someone accelerating and suddenly feeding a turbo with exhaust gas. And no, you don't need the 12v mod, do we really still talk about this? The pump goes 12v when you see positive boost anyway, you'd only increase the off-boost voltage, so pointless.
