I have a rare tinted green front screen at work if your interested? make me a offer

I'll let you know on that one Rob, my front screen has a blue tint. Dont think green would go with the red body.

Bit of a 'lost in translation' here fellas, one of you is on about the actual rear arches, the other is on about the rear quarter windows :D

Oops! I didn't read that either, thanks for clearing that up. Yes it is the rear quarter windows I have removed :D

Looking good. This is an epic build, I would be very proud of myself to achieve such a standard of workmanship.

Thanks mate, really enjoying it now as its starting to go to plan. I think the hard bit is yet to come though :)

Quick update.

Well, my new mats have just arrived today from Dane, will open the box later and have a peek.

Been a while since I last made any updates, been busy though.

Managed to remove the rear screen ok with alot of patience and a long bladed knife. Front screen wasn't so good, it cracked as soon as I stuck the blade in.

Wasn't to worried about any more cracks so just went for it to get it out in one piece.

Carefully removed the old adhesive from the outer edge of the rear screen.

Once all the adhesive was off, gave the screen a good clean and wrapped it up in bubble wrap and cardboard to be stored away until rebuild time.

Aero roof was quite straight forward to strip down, it will need some new trims and seals as these were looking very tired.

For the first time in 7 months, the car was rolled out onto my driveway. With the front and rear suspension removed the skate dollies seem to be working ok.

Heater and air con matrix removed, ready to change the heater rad.

Some of you may notice the fuse box and large bundle of wires waiting to be reconnected at the other end, all the wires are colour coded as close as possible to the original loom. Each cable is individually labeled to avoid confusion, I hope :)

Will update the fuse box relocation later on in the rebuild.

Thought it might be a good idea to stick the bonnet, front wings and framework thingy back on for transporting the shell.

Not updated thread for a while, still been working on it but work has been mad over the last month.

Looks likely now that car will go to Rob for respray around the middle of September so have started on a few other jobs.

The carpet is now very black, it didn't come out as good as I'd hoped to begin with and was very patchy. I think the problem was a combination of a very hot day and using a trigger spray for the dye.

Once it had dried I tried the next few coats with a paint brush. 7 litres later it has dried very black, the instructions stated that more coats would increase the colour depth.

Thought it was about time I started polishing a few bits so what better part to start on than my veilside plenum.

It was already polished but needs some extra bling.

Started on the fuel rail first and after about 3 hours work it was looking very good.

Next job was to unbolt the runners and the velocity stack plate from the plenum. The runner bolts came off easy enough, the velocity stack plate was a different story though. Only 2 of the 18 countersunk bolts came out, the rest started to round off in the hex

The only option I had to remove the remaining bolts was to take the plenum to work and set it up on a universal mill. So I drilled each bolt and using a screw extractor managed to remove the bolts and then run a 6mm tap down each thread to clean them out.

Will add some pics tomorrow.

Setting the plenum up and gauging it for squareness was a pita a there's not much to clamp to, took me at least 2 hours with 2 dti gauges to get it running parallel with the machine.

Carpet now nice and black!

Thanks guys, all encouragement helps :) A mag feature would be awesome and will hopefully happen. Everything seems to be taking ages at the moment, been very busy at work lately too.

Now winters on the way and I wont need to do anymore gardening jobs, I might get more time to spend on the build lol.

Thanks Jos, I hope to be finished by then as well. Your car is awesomely clean mate, I can appreciate the effort you put into it.

Right time to crack on and give you lot some updates :)

The shell is still waiting to go to Darnley for the respray and is being held up as I am waiting for some stock side vents, stock front bumper and passenger side rear arch trim. Once I have them the shell can go. I have had some kind offers of help on these parts while at JAE if I get desperate.

Over the past few weeks I have been busy and stripped down the front suspension ready to replace all the bushes with R2's and get everything cleaned up and powder coated.

This is how it started off. The rope is to hold up the ARB!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175293&stc=1&d=1379865564

The ARB drop links were putting up a fight, but were beaten by my trusty angle grinder. Ordered some new ones from Toyota anyway.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175294&stc=1&d=1379865889

ARB now free!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175295&stc=1&d=1379866079

Pesky drop links cut off from the ARB. Dont think I can reuse them!!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175296&stc=1&d=1379866211

Next step was removing the hubs from the upper and lower control arms, separating the ball joints was a task!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175297&stc=1&d=1379866388

attachment.php?attachmentid=175298&stc=1&d=1379866516

Removing the upper and lower control arms from the subframe was quite easy. Not one of the bolts had seized inside the bushes.I could have saved my self some money but I had already received all the new bolts and camber adjusters from Toyota. Oh well, at least they will be new.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175299&stc=1&d=1379866937

attachment.php?attachmentid=175300&stc=1&d=1379867041

Now all the control arms and hubs were removed I could now separate the brake disc from the hub. As I am changing the brakes and calipers for K-sports, I will no longer need the j-spec setup.

There are 2 - 8mm threaded holes in the part of the disc that mounts to the hub, screwing in 8mm bolts just pops the disc off the hub without using a hammer!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175301&stc=1&d=1379867393

attachment.php?attachmentid=175302&stc=1&d=1379867814

attachment.php?attachmentid=175303&stc=1&d=1379867830

Last few bits to stripdown, just need to separate the subframe parts.

All the steel parts are being powder coated satin black. The main ally part of the subframe is being shot blasted clean and then clear coated to keep the stock look!

attachment.php?attachmentid=175304&stc=1&d=1379868008

attachment.php?attachmentid=175305&stc=1&d=1379868314

Most of the parts ready to be taken to the powder coaters. Should be ready in a couple of weeks.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175306&stc=1&d=1379868392

One of the upper control arms with the old bushes removed, had to carefully burn them out with an Oxy-Acetylene torch. You can see the remains of the bushes in the picture.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175308&stc=1&d=1379868618

One of the lower arms with the bushes removed, these bushes were a nightmare to get out as there is an outer sleeve that's left behind.

As you can see, the lower arms are a little rusty. An hour or two with a wire brush on the angle grinder got them cleaned up.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175307&stc=1&d=1379868558

All the control arms cleaned up and the shock mounting brackets removed. I also had to take off the ball joint boots as these will be damaged by the powder coating oven.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175310&stc=1&d=1379869094

Hopefully all the bits will back from the powder coaters in a few weeks and ready to put back together.

Some nice new shiney bolts from Toyota.

I did ask the guy about that and he said he has done a few control arms with ball joints and have all been ok. He will be masking them off though

Unless it's low temp bake powder i'd be a bit worried. I work with my dad running a powdercoating plant.

The heat from the oven will make the old grease leak out when it's hung up. The way the oem balljoint is sealed makes it impossible to get new grease into it. It will only be around the top in the boot.

I wouldn't do it to be completely honest but if the guy says it's ok then... it's ok.

Managed to get a few more bits done lately.

Took a trip to see Keron to collect another front windscreen as mine cracked when trying to remove it. Just needs a little clean up then will be wrapped ready to be refitted.

attachment.php?attachmentid=175594&stc=1&d=1380745190

While all the suspension parts are away at the powder coaters, I have shot blasted one the front hubs and brake disc shield and resprayed it in primer. Will spray black when both hubs are primered. The first picture shows the hubs before and 2 bungs I turned on a lathe at work to close off the holes in the hub for the ABS sensors.

Shot blasting the other side tomorrow. The large washers and bolts you can see are to protect the tapered holes for the ball joints, dont want those shotblasted.
