Elmo
I'm Considering painting my dash in PlastiDip black, with gloss finish. It seems like a good idea, firstly you can spray directly over the dash, no need to spend hours prepping (except for cleaning the surface prior to spraying), and if you mess up or decide to change colours you can just peel it off and start again. Has anyone used plastiDip their dash, or any other part for that matter?
shifted
It gets used here a lot for exterior panels and wheels.

bonus_2000
Yeah I went for the matt finish for an OEM look, I will see if I can go get some pics today if you want mate?
TubbyTwo
That would be good cheers. Cant decide between carbon wrap or plastidip
Elmo
Plastidip would be by far the easiest and cheapest option, all you need to do is buy a can. If you don't like it just peel it off and get them carbon wrapped.

Just make sure you clean the surface first then spray it on, much easier than using conventional spray paint. There aren't many places that sell it, if plastidip.co.uk have sold out, you'll need to wait for them to get more stock. I have seen it on ebay but it's twice the price. cje001
How many 400ml cans you reckon you would need to do the main dash panels/gear level panel?
bonus_2000
From what I can remember, I think I did the whole dash out of 1 can.. I have attached a couple of pics of my dash, sorry I know they aren't the best, but the car is in the garage.
trebor69
Does this product fill scratches etc ? Surely they need wet and drying out first ?
bonus_2000
When I did mine, my dash had been painted before, so i flatted and primed before I went on with the PlastiDip.

TubbyTwo
The black is back in stock at plastidip.co.uk: http://www.plastidip.co.uk/eStore/index.cfm?Plastidip_Aerosol_Spray_-_400ml&stage=3&colour=Black,Blue,Clear,Yellow,White,Red,Green,Orange,Brown&pid=PDL-0009 just ordered 2 cans for the dash plus other bits. adarmo
It worrys me slightly that it can peel off so easily. How well does it stand up to daily use ? Obviously not an issue on the dash but around the gearlever etc is likely to get "touched"
Elmo
Nice one
TubbyTwo
Hopefully with enough layers it should be ok. No idea tbh never used it, worth a try. But then the OEM rubber finish can mark fairly easily as well. Cheaper alternative to wrapping the whole dash is 3M Carbon.

Obviously not an issue on the dash but around the gearlever etc is likely to get "touched" I don't think it peels off that easy, you have get a pin or something in it to get it started, then you have to pull it off. It's quite hard wearing, after all people paint their wheels and whole cars in the stuff, just make sure you give it 5 or 6 coats and you'll be fine. Obviously not an issue on the dash but around the gearlever etc is likely to get "touched" given that it will stand up to pressure washers i'd say fairly well
TubbyTwo
I'm going to do a good 5+ coats on the whole dash set, possibly more in the areas that will have more contact.
SupraStar 3000
Look forward to seeing some of your results as I may gone down this route.
TubbyTwo
Will stick a thread up this weekend mate, was thinking carbon wrap initially so bought a sheet of the 3M and wrapped the gear surround and ashtray lid. Liked it at first but now not so keen. Would prefer a more OEM look. I didn't bother getting the plastidip primer so will see how holds without.
