Rob_Mitchell
Thought i would do a thread just for some ideas on this problem were having with the car. Lee and Ash are working hard on it and no doubt will get to the bottom of it. Car has decided to create a problem which Lee and Ash are sorting, i went to collect the car yesterday but a cam sensor fault stopped me from taking her home. Seems to still be causing headaches today, so pickup might be doubtful. Im in no rush, i just want it right. Its a strange fault though. I have known cam faults like this through working at VW but codes are worded slightly different on diagnostic tools and the supras live data is showing no signal from the cam sensor, seems to be when its warm! . swapped the cam sensors with new and even the multi plugs. Lee has completely re-wired the loom from the ECU to the cams sensors. Took it out today with Ash for fuel and the same thing happened. Im wondering if it could be the Crank sensor but even then im jubious as surely there would be 'no spark' at all. Just decides to cut out at junctions and then is a pig to get started again! its seriously doing my head in and been looking on supra forums ect for a answer to help SRD out. Never did this when i was single and the car was faultless, so it must be something silly?? but the laptop is showing "cam sensor" all the time!! Runs rough once error has occured and wont rev over 2500k, (limp mode kicked in i think) Edited April 15, 2013 by Rob_Mitchell (see edit history)
Chris Bailey
Can Lee not get in contact with Ryan, Surely the Syvecs has picked up the problem and Ryan can see what the Syvecs is saying when he plugs the laptop in? Just a thought Im sure it will get sorted in the end!

Just a thought Im sure it will get sorted in the end! Lee rang Ryan yesterday when i was there swopping sensors over. Lee has the equipment and program to read the trouble codes and its showing "cam sensor" all the time. But if its not wiring, sensors or plugs then..... its got to be something else? stock ecu might be playing up but not sure. I never question The ability of Lee and Ash, they know more about supras than anyone i know, but Lee has not encountered this before and the thread is just to gather some ideas ect. JasonR24
Try the crank sensor. Iv had 2 cars in the past with crank sensor issues. One read cam sensor and one read ecu fault and both were the crank sensor. One was Vauxhall other was Honda. Good luck getting it sorted :thumbs;

Thats why i just have that feeling as sometimes my code reader reads cam sensor but it throws you off course and its actually crank sensor. Guest Budz86
How come you have the stock ecu with the syvecs? Something to do with the autobox? I have one you could borrow to see if it solves things?

mellonman
Thats a shame, if the sensor has been changed twice and wiring has been changed then it can only be one of the ecu's by the looks of it, May need a scope to actually check the sensor sinal out put. Still a shame but im sure it will get done
hodge
Check the timing belt tensioner, and tensioner bracket. I had a cam sensor issue with my car. I pulled my hair out for ages trying to sort it, new sensor, wiring etc etc but turned out that at higher rpm the Syvecs was detecting a mismatch between the cam and crank sensors and killing the car. What timing belt tensioner bracket do you have?
Rob_Mitchell
Stock tensioner bracket, never had one issue when single though. Cheers John i have text Lee, fingers crossed we get to the bottom of this. Faults like this aint nice as i have had them on other cars and they play on your mind Edited April 15, 2013 by Rob_Mitchell (see edit history)

Rob_Mitchell
Is this now fixed Rob? Nope! but Lee is ripping the plastic cam covers off again, fitting new belt, tensioner and billet tensioner bracket! cant think of anything else which it can be... so bloody strange Nicholas Things like this always happen when the big shows are looming! i have one on the 6th at Lydden and its massive for our company but i have faith in Mr.SRD, he is a legend Edited April 18, 2013 by Rob_Mitchell (see edit history)
Guest Budz86
If you get this back in time Rob you have to bring it to BW! Il bring my tools and if someone would be kind enough to distract you for 20 mins I plan on having those heat shields away!

If its ready I'll be there definitely but I'll have a barbed wire fence around it lol

Rob_Mitchell
I hope you get it sorted soon mate I bet your itching to get back behind the wheel. More than anything! Lee and ash have done a great job, saw it last Sunday and it sounds the bollox plus it drives so smooth!!! Until the dreaded fault kicks in then it spits its dummy out. I'm sure lee and ash will sort it for when I need it. They are good blokes and know the supra inside out.

Lee P
The timing star had spun round on the back of the crank sprocket and was moving around. The locating lug that hold it in position had broken off. Usually they just fall and the car won't run at all but the sprocket was damaged due to the front crank seal coming out at some point and rubbing on the pulley.
