sammytruck
Hi all, has anyone experienced high revs right from start up ?. I have a '99 tiptronic, mapped around the 600 mark. Ryan mapped the car so I am sure its nothing to do with the recent mapping. On starting, the engine will try to rev up quite high, I turn the engine off instantly, reset alarm on and off then try again. sometimes it will rev 3-4 times before starting normally, other times its fine first go. i thought it was the alarm, I had the old Clifford 300, so I had a new Clifford 650 concept fitted....still the same. If anyone can help I would be very gratefull....thanks.
Westy
Idle control valve may need cleaned/replaced. There is a guide on here.
mellonman
how high is high for a start, mine starts and has fast idle around 2k and thats how MrT intended
sideexitsupra
It's so long since I drove mine I may be wrong, but iirc my BPU sits at around 1200 on cold start and drops to 800-900 after a minute or two.
sammytruck
Its as if I have foot hard down on throttle, trying to rev to limit. It just has to be turned off, a bit frightening really.
mellonman
maybe the actual throttle cable is fraid and jammed in the sleave , take a look at the throttle body and see if its free
sammytruck
Throttle cable is all ok, not frayed. Throttle appears to return to closed position every time....
Ian C
The VVTi doesn't have an idle control valve, it uses the fly-by-wire throttle to control the idle. Sounds like the FBW throttle is going wide open for some reason. The throttle cable and butterfly cam aren't solidly connected to the actual throttle butterfly, so that being closed does not necessarily equal the butterfly is closed. mellonman
you say it was mapped by ryan so you have a after market ecu , so you should be able to log what is happening , if you have the soft ware that is ?
