SupraD06
Hi guys, I'm wanting to remove the Air Con system from my car as i never use it ( Not once in 6 years ) and have tried searching on here but without really getting the answers I'm after. Ive read that you need to keep the support of the A/c pump in place as it supports the power steering pump above, and the options seem to be to either leave the whole pump in place, or just use the bracket part of the pump to keep the support intact. My main questions are, can i just rip everything else out without any issues? I.e the rad, compressor, lines and pipework? Ive also seen that some lines go through the firewall and behind the dash as well. Can these just be cut off close to the firewall and left attached to whatever is behind the dash? My plan was to just leave the pump where it is and just remove everything else, and then when i have all my pulleys and a few other bits fitted, i can either remove the pump and just use the bracket, or just leave the whole pump there. Thoughts?? Cheers.
s50b30
I removed the pump. Made a bracket to support the ps pump, 1930mm(?) belt. And thats it, cant comment on the lines. As they wherent on the car when I got it.
safcdixon
You don't have to cut the lines at the firewall they unscrew the one 10mm bolt on each line near the abs unit I pulled the dash out too and removed everything but tbh its not worth the hassle
Radio
Seems like a lot of time and effort mate. Why not pretend that you have already done it as you don't use it so you wont miss it. If you sell it, the next person may want to give you a bit less money for having it removed. Of course the choice is yours. SupraD06
Cheers for the reply's, yeah i didn't fancy taking all the dash apart if it really didn't matter. Right i will just remove all lines, and A/c rad for now then, And then i may just leave the pump where it is. Although thinking about it the pulleys Ive got coming don't include one for the A/c anyway. So might look naff having all new pulleys and an old A/c one. Lol maybe. Ive already got the car in pieces in the garage, and when i took the intercooler off i just noticed how tired the A/c rad was, so then i started thinking that while Ive got access to it, i may as well strip it out. ashbuster
i was thinking of scrapping mine, can you just leave it running to empty it and then cut the pipes / strip it all out. but leave the pump and pulley in place? saves the hassle of making brackets
SupraD06
From what Ive seen you use part of the pump itself as the bracket. Using all the stock fixings etc. Hodge and Rob Mitchell have both used the stock bracket and had it polished. I was going to leave the pump and pulley in place, but think it would look better if the pulley was gone if nothing else. This is part of the pump, that then gets used to re support the power steering pump. If you remove the pump aswell the part number for the shorter belt is PK 1865. The only thing I still need to do is remove the fuse and the pipe work behind the firewall but its ok for now. I might consider getting a heater control unit from a model with no air con so I dont have a functionless button, do these exis or do all supra;s have air con? Hope this helps anyway. Guigsy
I still don't understand why people bother removing it. Makes your car a lot less sellable!
SupraD06
Cheers Kaan, yes all info is very much appreciated. I just didn't want to remove anything and then cause some major problems. I'll speak to Chris Wilson when i take my car to him and see about removing the pump and just using the brace part. Thanks for the shorter belt info as well. I think they all had aircon mate. But not 100% sure. I know my old 94 NA did.
