SupraLuigi
Sorry I'm sure this is available but I can't find. Whats the size of the standard wheels / tyres for an auto 93 J spec non turbo? Whats the point of putting wider wheels on?
Faye
My NA came with 16s and 225's all round. They looked pants and the tyres on them weren't really up to the job. I got some 18s with wider tyres front and back which I will admit was for looks more than anything else, but compared to the 16s the car is a whole lot better behaved now. SupraLuigi
Whats the width of the standard wheels? Are front and back the same?

If 16" wheels : 16 x 8 Front (225/50/16 tyres) 16 x 9 Rear (245/45/16) If 17" wheels : 17 x 8 (235/45/17) 17 x 9½ (255/40/17)
SupraLuigi
Thanks everyone. So why put wider wheels on?
nickyboy
Thanks everyone. So why put wider wheels on? Because then, if you get a puncture, you can pay more to replace them.
Faye
Jake - I'm pretty sure mine were 8 all round
nickyboy
Jake - I'm pretty sure mine were 8 all round Would be surprised. Theres a sheet going round somewhere that gives the sizes of both 17s and 16s stocks and the wheel sizes are as quoted by Jake.
garethr
I have a set of MkIV wheels which are all 16x8, and another set which are 16x8 F and 16x9 R. No idea which particular models they came off though... Maybe N/A and import TT?
Faye
They were definitely 225's all round, wouldn't 225s be way too small for 9s? Maybe I just had two lots of fronts, I don't know.
Kip
I'm still running on standard.. (RZS 6spd manual facelift TT Jspec on an N) 245. 45. 16. rear 225. 50. 16. front Presumably rear are wider to put the power down better over the wider area? And yes they are f-kin expensive to shoe - can recommend Toyo TS1s winter and Bridgestone Expidia for the summer.
Jake
Faye, Does your car still have the sticker below the door striker plate telling you the right size tyres and pressures? (It's covered by the door when it's shut, if you see what I mean) Just wondering what it says on there.
Bobbeh
Thanks everyone. So why put wider wheels on? Wider wheel supports larger tyres which gives more grip.
Tigger
Are you thinking of putting stocks back on then?

I'll have a look tonight, I'm all curious now. I do remember at the time being bitterly disappointed that the ugly stock wheels were 16s and no bigger than the nice stock wheels I had on my previous car. Tigger
Faye, I remember looking at a supe and it had all four wheels the same size. I thought at the time it must be wrong. Maybe some do come with all four the same:confused:
Faye
At least I'm not going mad!
SupraLuigi
The driver side rear wheel developed a crack on the inside of the rim and the tyre deflated - I've had it repaired but am thinking of new wheels now amd still have to sell. Max Headroom
I had 16x8s all round with 225/50/16 on stock wheels when I first got my car
SupraLuigi
I've only got the original set. I've been posting to see if anyone had any for sale. Now I'm thinking about buying a new set.
Steve W
Faye, i'm pretty sure NONE of the Soops ever came as standard with "same" back as front. Peeps just sometimes end up "saving money" or using what's "left over" ?!? Went to see one in a dealers last week which had 18's all round but ALL were 225/40-18's... it's usually far cheaper to buy the narrower rears. But, it didn't fill the rear arches properly AT ALL ! looked a bit Skinny. I'm sure you COULD drive round for EVER with narrow rears on and never come to any harm, but on the other hand ONE could be a terrible driver like MOI and NEED the extra rear width (that refers to wheels AND Bot's ) FatS. JohnA
Thanks everyone. So why put wider wheels on? To wear down the wheel bearings faster.
Faye
Jake - had a check of the car. The sticker has two rows which refer to 225s, then a third row that has 245 on it. Is this what you've got? Keith's just checked his car out and it seems to be saying the UKs can run on 235s at the rear!!!!
