Front crash bar

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Assume all Supras were made with a front crash bar behind the bumper? I decided to remove my bumper to sort out the rather poor intercooler install by the previous owner... we wont go into that.

Car is a 1995 NA_TT:

Stripped it all down to find this:

going by this picture there should be a crash bar?

So guessing it was removed to enable the crappy intercooler to be fitted badly, on the wonk>

Do these bolt in or weld in?

It just bolts onto the end of the chassis rails

Ok thanks Dnk.

the intercooler gets fitted just behind the crash bar doesnt it? so no need to remove

You would think so yeah, but it was fitted with the bottom of the IC jammed against the inside of the bumper so an entire row of fins are flattened, and the brackets used to support the top of the IC were made from 1mm flimsy metal bent to a right angle.

Bodge.

Did it have a DO-LUCK bumper fitted at any stage by any chance ?

Going by some old posts onthe forum it used to have a Stillen front bumper. Could be why.

Poor design though if you have to remove some crash protection just to fit some fiberglass.

I know mate, Do-Lucks need it removed, I heard someone done i thinner crash bar for aftermarket bumpers but they seem to be like rocking horse sh**

I don't know of any other aftermarket kits that need it removed but that would be my guess why it's not there
