wile e coyote
Hi guys I've had a issue with my auto box a couple of times now so if anybody can advise be great The car drives fine and all gears work, but like yesterday I was driving for about 45 min on motorway usual speeds between 70 and 100 with traffic so box at usual temp. Had a run with a couple of bikes which brought temp up to around 220 ( have a temp gauge fitted) Now what happens is oil seems to come out off the top of the box , I think breather but not sure as cant see, this drips onto exhaust which then engages the smoke screen James Bond stile I have an extra cooler fitted but between inter cooler and rad I was considering getting my box refurb at srd later this year with another cooler. So any ideas guys Thanks darren
tomgeer
When was the last time you changed the gearbox fluid? could be as simple as it needs a flush? Also are the fluid levels where they should be?
wile e coyote
Forgot to say Fluid all good changed last year inc filter
listy
Is it definitely from the box? Could it possibly be from the rear crank seal?
wile e coyote
Def auto box oil
absz
220 degrees seems a bit high.Either the fluid is expanding, too much heat or it might be overfilled. Check level when hot. what fluid are you running the transmission with?
jonc
Have to say 220 seems a bit high. Has it gone that high before? Sounds to me like hotter than normal fluid expanding and venting. I would add the cooler to the checklist above.
wile e coyote
Using Toyota atf IM hoping it's just the temp Thanks guys Would anything else cause high temp ie pump or tc
absz
Slipping clutch packs or torque converter can also cause high temps, but that will cause driving issues and turn the colour of the oil brown with a strong smell of burnt oil. EDIT: make sure the oil pipes are not kinked and causing a restriction in the flow as you have a additional cooler plumbed in.
