Chris Wilson
Given the marginal strength of a N/A box is snatching gear changes with a short shifter a good idea? The synchros will probably already be tired, fast power changes will probably see it off

Before you start asking for parts on the forum (as that would be your logical next step) you will need to pay your membership fee.
james_cbr
payed up now if the N/A boxes are that bad what do all the N/A T people use ?
listy
The w58 is ok for BPU or a smaller NA-t, so long as you don't consistently hard shift, or do harsh down shifts. Some use the R154 from a mkiii turbo, or soarer. Some go 6 speed. All depends on preference and budget.
masterfett
also i find the w58 is pretty adequate at shifting fast as it is, id spend my money elsewhere to be honest
james_cbr
well ive never driven a supra yet im picing my first one up this saterday and i fited a short shifter to my previous car and love how clunky it made it feel going through gears and the shorter movemnt the supra might be ok as it is was just thinknig about short shifters realy might be fine as it is would love to go 6 speed
Chris Wilson
Actually the 5 speed box is a much sweeter change, albeit the internals are a bit marginal. The 6 speed is a bit truck like, but very tough. Plus you don't really NEED 6 gears in a torquey 3 litre turbo car, it was a bit of a marketing gimmick. james_cbr
im thinking about the low rpm moterway cruseing in 6th
Chris Wilson
I suppose every little helps, these days, even with 3 litre twin turbo gas guzzlers
listy
im thinking about the low rpm moterway cruseing in 6th I'm at around 3000rpm doing 70-80mph on the motorway in a NA-TT BPU with a 5 speed box. These are big engines with plenty of torque built for high speed cruising, and I find that's when the Supra is at its most efficient

bignum
I loved my 5 speed in the na, a real pleasure to drive, don`t think i ever missed a gear even at the ring where its easy to get in a muddle.
