JohnK
I am in the process of changing to a cast manifold from one of the boostlogic adaptor manifolds. All on the tightest budget imaginable. Luckily I can do / get done 99% of the work myself. Not a great deal of progress at the moment as i've just started but you can follow my progress HERE Just follow the link to cast manifold. I should add, this is not a case of buying things and me bolting them on, there will be a fair bit of fabrication and modification going into this. michael
No comments as yet but I want to follow your progress, is that one of Arnout's manifolds on there? I can see myself going a similar route having seen eyefi's setup, looks like a quality chunk.
Whitelightning
Good luck m8 - we need to spin round Southampton in our Supes whilst the sun is out so get a peg on !
JohnK
It is one of Arnout's and the quality is good. The one comment I have is that the holes dont line up 100% with the studs on my head, dont get me wrong it slides over them fine, but only some of the holes are spotfaced and where the stud isnt quite on center I will have to use an extra washer with the collared nuts. And as I said not all are spot faced.
Jake
What does spot faced mean, John?
eyefi
eyup john, the wastegate doesn't fit upto the manifoild, there is a connecter pipe to fit between. the hks 50mm will fit angled forward to the manifold and there is room to dump to atmosphere easily (if that's what you want to do). as for the downpipe, no easy options but fabricating. have a look here for some pics http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=40693
JohnK
The hole on the right is spot faced, the one on the left not. Spot facing ensures that the nut is bearing down on a surface parallel to the mating face.
JohnK
Eyefi - thanks for the pointer. I already have an adaptor in progress to fit the wastegate
JohnK
Just to add - I am trying to reuse as much as possible of the parts I already have.
Jake
The hole on the right is spot faced, the one on the left not. Spot facing ensures that the nut is bearing down on a surface parallel to the mating face. Ah, gotcha now. Thanks
arnout
The holes in the manifold are 'wrong' to allow the exhaust manifold to expand!
JohnK
I'm not criticising, its just my observations. Also I didn’t say anything was "wrong". Would it not be a good idea to machine a flat area on the back of all holes instead of spot facing just some as at the moment if the collar of the nut were to sit in the spot face it would not allow any movement for expansion. JohnK
Arnout, I forgot to ask in my last post, where would you suggest to mount my EGT gauge? no.1, no6 or near the center by the turbo inlet?
eyefi
john, i was monitoring no1 cyl previously so i continued to do that with this manifold, for comparison purposes. you want that probe as close as possible to the valve to get the gas temp as accurate as possible. i dont think the centre is the best place. JohnK
Eyefi - thats where I had it before as well. I was thinking it should remain there, Ive had it both at no1 and no6 and didnt notice much different between the 2. I was hopeing to get Arnouts experienced view on this. arnout
I normally drill & tap in the exhaust housing (inlet flange that bolts to the manifold).
JohnK
Added 3 composite pics of the turbo and manifold and where they are before modification. Arnout - Thanks
