Paul
The guys at Phoenix told me to stay with a stock toyota one as they have some sort of felt on the face that prevents sqealing (sp?) They are silly money, about £70, bloody long belts though. Paul

ivan
Just been told by 2 separate places that the Gates number is incorrect - apparently it's not a 21mm x 1955mm belt, but a 21mm x 1932 mm one. (Can't remember the number but will post it when I get it) I returned a 1932mm one this morning after reading that it was wrong on here. When I went to order from somewhere else they told me exactly the same thing. I want to get this cracked belt changed this weekend as I don't want to go touring Germany next week with it in it's current state. I don't suppose someone's got a new or used fan belt they could measure please? Cheers, Ken
ivan
Anyone?
ivan
Update. I asked the supplier to get both belts in and I'd return the incorrect one. The 1955mm belt was indeed the right one, and "the book" was wrong - twice! So chalk one up to this site. Thanks guys.
Jake
So the part number I posted above was correct? Or not?
Steve W
I'll look in the Gates book in the morn' if no-one knows before then ? plus i'm fairly sure Gates are Main-Agent on Vauxhalls (not that THATs a particularly brilliant recommendation !! - we do a LOT of Ecotech belt failures - 'specially the 2.5/3.0 ) We use Gates/AE/FAI/Dayco and have NO problems with any of them. Also if you INSIST on a Toyota belt, nearly ALL "parts" such as filters/belts etc (particulary Discs and Pads !! - FIRST-HAND experience !!) are made and supplied to Toyota by Blueprint. (I'll get THAT number in morn too). [bought in front pads and discs for boss's mates UK TT and they were Blueprint, then little later bought in MINE to uprate my TT... form Toyota...in Toyota boxes... with Toyota numbers... THEY WERE EXACTLY THE SAME PADS AND DISCS !!! - got photos somewhere of HIS and MINE ] FatS.
Nic
Most of Toyota's parts are made by Denso in Japan, are you sure they were Blueprint parts?
Steve W
ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL ! ! I suppose DENSO could make them for BOTH (Toyota and Blueprint) ? If i hadn't got trade on them from Toyotas i'd have sent 'em back and re-ordered the Blueprint ones instead.... THAT IDENTICAL. {must dig out the pics}

Todd
Just phoned my local factors (unipart) and they say the belt is 1950mm not 1955mm. Can anyone clarify this?
Todd
Anyone?
Steve W
s'alright mate.... the various manufacturers list/supply slightly different length belts from both the 'original' AND from each OTHER ! ! ! We use Ancillary belts from Unipart, Gates, Dayco, FAI, etc etc and although all within a few millimetres of each other and SOME are EXACTLY the same, they generally 'seem to disagree', almost like one is saying THEY think it ought to be slightly longer/shorter. found that as long as the belt is listed for the appropriate vehicle they still fit OK. It MAY be that they 'measure' the lengths in a slightly different way (?!). The fact that they are tensioned AND the exact length is not as critical as a Timing-Belt (for instance) may mean it doesn't matter (?). THAT SAID, i haven't ACTUALLY bought/measured (or USED) the Gates one myself (or on a job) so that bit about being 1930mm i can't comment on there's certainly no reason NOT to but Toyota other than the fact that it may be grossly overpriced...if it's NOT, then why not ?? As for the TIMING-BELT..... even I might tend to stick to Toyota just because the possibilty of a failure is...errr... a tad more worrying than just getting stuck out in the cold waiting for the AA. (i REPEAT, we have NEVER had a timing-belt 'job' come back to us under warranty and it's quite rare that we use 'original' direct from the agent !! but for MY car................... ) I'll look-up the numbers/lengths for mkIV belt tomorrow in all the makes i can and post 'em up here for interest ???? [yeah, i know, i said that before...... ] FatS
Steve W
Forgot about numbers 'till ~5 minutes before Knocking-Off time ! ! Didn't have time for Unipart etc, just got these ones so far.......
Whitesupraboy2
i got uni part one somewhere as it belt i got on my car...ohh but no length sorry
Todd
Thanks Steve, I got one from WD Factors but going on the various info on here I asked for one that was 1955 in length so part number was 6PK1955! Hope it aint to big as going on the part number you posted should be more like 1930 something in length????
Steve W
Could be either way mate ?! Those are straight out of the 3 catalogues, BUT, they MAY have copied wrong info from somewhere ?? Not VERY likely but possible ??? I would think they'd have had some negative feedback by now ?!? and changed their listings ?? THINK i need one shortly (mine's looking rather sad...cracking/old looking) so i will PERSONALLY see what the problems are FIRST-HAND... BOOGER ! !
