Guest Big OC
Hi guys, Well my Supra is back on the road after 2 years in my garage. I took it to DCY (YORK) to get it though the MOT, a good service, cam belt change etc, etc... Then they dropped it off at the powder coaters for my wheels to be done. Anyway, I got a call yesterdy to say it was finally ready and i went to pick it up... I started it up and it was running quite high, i i thought it'd run it down the raod and see if she would carm down. 1min down to road i hit some trafic. Thats when i noticed it was running at 4000rpm on tick over! I pulled over to see if the throttle cable was sticking and it wasn't. Got my lass to reve it a few times and nothing seems to be sticking.... Anybody have any idea's what could be the problem?? DCY said it could be the idle control valve but they aren't 100%.... I phoned Toyota and its £700.80p for one! Alittle to much to buy it and find out it isn't that!!!! I'v just spent over £2k getting it back on the raod and i cant afford another £700.... One of the guys from DCY are looking to see if he can spot a second hand one for me now so fingers crossed... In the mean time i thought i'd check with you guys to see if any of you mite know what it could be? Cheers
David P
ICV or split/broken vacuum hose. Plenty of used ones about for the cost of a couple of pints. Note: N/A and T.T. ICV's are different. First check that the one you have is plugged in properly.
Guest Big OC
Hi Dave Thank you for your reply, sorry its taken me ages to respond, I have had a bad few weeks and I haven't been on the net at all..... Anyway. All the hoses etc seem fine, I took the idle control valve off and gave it a clean but it didn't really help.... I'm abit stumped on what to try next. DCY never called me back I'll look at using another garage for anything else in future.... Cheers Paul

Ian C
It'll be getting too much air, that's the only reason it will idle that high. 4000rpm is a lot of extra air so should be easy enough to spot - for example if you leave off the power steering valve hose (a 1/4" barb), your idle goes up to about 1100rpm. The air will have to be sneaking in at or after the throttle butterfly. Things to check, in suggested order of likeliness and ease: Stuck open idle control valve - Easy first check, remove the rubber hose that feeds it and manually throttle the air going in by mostly blocking the hole. You can also remove the stepper motor, keep it wired up, and see if the plug it spins in and out actually moves when you start the car. Maladjusted throttle stop screw - it'd have to be seriously maladjusted to get 4000rpm, holding it open around halfway. Missing hoses off the intake plenum - visually inspect, although it'd need to be a very big hose for 4000rpm Damage/holed throttle butterfly - remove the throttle body and inspect it. Guest Big OC
Thanks for your help guys. I'm useless when It comes to cars so I'll have to take it to the garage.... I'm gonna see if they can put it on the dino.... What pisses me off is it wasn't running like this when it left. I would have liked to have thought DCY would of offered me some help....
