GeordieSteve
Just a quicky coz I'm not much of a Cisco guy. I'm just about to swap out an ADSL router on site but there is a Cisco 501 sitting infront of it. Will there have to be any changes made on the 501 i.e. MAC addresses? JustGav
Unless they have done some funky mac address filtering which I REALLY REALLY doubt, it should be a fairly easy swop over, provided you use like for like settings.. Gav
GeordieSteve
Fantastic! All IP's etc. will remain the same. Just the 3rd party company I use may just try to scam me again
SteveR
Hmmm.... maybe. What is the 501, a switch?? Not familiar with it. It could restrict things you want to restrict (e.g. certain IP address range(s) only, certain ports only) however (and the new unit will need to be configured to provide the same security) or, it could be doing some NATing (likely), or similar, which the new unit may need to be configured in order to work. GeordieSteve
501 is a firewall mate
SteveR
Hmmm.... if you send me the config file from the Firewall (and the current ADSL router if it's Cisco?) - i.e. copy & paste the text after doing a "show run" (if you're allowed to!!) - I can take a look and tell you if there is anything that will need jigging. imi
501 is a firewall, pretty small box but a lovely one at that. N1 steve....that is very helpful. I'm gonna save you in my buddy list for next time
