Dnk
You don't have to remove it to check for play

tina n paul
What do think is wrong as i can't see anything obvious basically im getting knocking clunking noises when going over lumps or bumps in the road top mounts look fine no play , ive checked everything else for knocking try as hard as i might it wont do it unless its out on the road , somebody else had same problem he was told it was the shocks but there not leaking and respond well to up and down movement whilst im bumping it up n down ,
stevie_b
Might not be this, but make sure your subframe bolts are tight. They can cause knocks.
Dnk
Damper, spring, arb drop links, ball joints, bushes is where i'd be looking and check the subframe bolts while your at it with a torque wrench preferably
trebor69
I have same knocking, all bushes have been checked, new drop links and ARB bushes, top mounts are good too, no play anywhere, shocks do not leak and respond well but MUST be the culprit, have heard that the wear does not show as its on the inside of the shock . trebor69
Subframe bolts are torqued to spec too .
tina n paul
Same here guys but here is a thought , whilst i was under there i had a good look around and could see that lower engine mounts were close to the subframe , upon closer inspection could see where the metal edge of the mount was striking the plate ,A clean metal area , but when i try to move the engine it don't budge or clunk , could it be up n down movement causing the knock ? As tbh it does sound lower in the footwell
Shane
Could be many different things. My son spent an age trying to get to the bottom of knocking on his prized Civic recently. Ball joints, shock mounts, exhaust and everything you could think of. Everything except the hairpin springs on his brake pads that had been left off when the pads had last been changed:d Good old Dad found it in a few minutes, but through luck more than judgment.
