supraGZaerotop
what would cause the front passenger wheel to skip while pulling out of junctions or the garage etc? i can feel it through the steering on full lock, feels like a knock, upon my mate watching the front of the car while its doing it he says it like the front left wheel is being dragged so its like skipping on full lock, right hand down. it only does it only on tight turns, junctions/parking the car, my mate whos looked at the car saids there nothing wrong with it, everything is solid. strange. im thinking my front tyres maybe. what causes this? Big Mark
I was in an Audi R8 this week that did a similar thing at slow parking speeds. Owner has been told it's due to the width of the tyres............

Steve Paine
My Merc CLK was doing it and it was also a thing with Triumphs. It is all to do with alignment, tracking and tyre wear. On the Merc it was more noticeable when the tyres were near the end of life. It is usually the inner wheel of the turn that scrubs. Just a case of put up rally! LOGIE
Wheel bearing? just a guess. have you jacked the car up and tried spinning the wheel by hand?? Does it turn easily? any grinding noise or play when pushing and pulling the wheel from top or bottom? Again just an uneducated guess. process of elimination. safcdixon
Mine also does this i blame the suspension stiffness/lowness on mine though, could be your suspension alignment/tracking/camber settings maybe worth getting your suspension setup
Dnk
Mines pretty low and stiff with 9.5" wide fronts and doesn't do this

supraGZaerotop
going to try 2 new tyres on front first, see if that helps, been told it my be my tyres, theyre 5-6 year old goodyear eagle f1s, got about 4 mm left- update-( more like on the legal limit) Edited March 12, 2014 by supraGZaerotop (see edit history)
supraGZaerotop
Soooo happy ive changed my 7 year old goodyear eagle f1s 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 to continental contact 3 all round but for 235 up front and 265 on the rears. OMG its like different car, no longer is the skipping front end an issue, dont clunk while on full lock manoeuvrings/parking/driveway anymore, no more switchy handling at speed. my god, id never have thought it. but if anyone have this issue, replacing your tyres to a more oem size tyre is a vast improvement. Josh
Mine do this. It's more noticeable on the stock wheels (stock tyre sizes) than it is on the LMs, but it still does it when turning both ways at full lock either going forwards or backwards. I normally just don't turn it quite to full lock and it's fine
David P
Sounds like your suspension is too low?

Dnk
My car was miles away from the o/e sizes and never suffered with this skipping you mention, i don't quite see how coming down 10 mm in width of the tyre would cure it. its more down to the geometry than tyre width Have you had the geo looked at, what were/are the figures Edited March 11, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
james_cbr
mine dose it when reversing on lock and mines all standard
supraGZaerotop
well my car is perfect now, never thought tyres would cause that, felt like there was something major clunking about but car is solid. anyone have this issue, replace tyresMine do this. supraGZaerotop
yeah had the geo looked at a year ago, it didint do anything regarding the clunking on full lock, car drives fine, straight and true. it very well may have been the tyres age on the car for some reason that caused it. spoke to chris wilson about it some time ago and he asked what wheels i had and said it was something to with the wheels he thought, oem sizes regarding this car are the best. cheapest option for me was to change the tyres over, so i did. and its transformed the car. like i said i dont know if it was down to the tyres being old but i didint want to replace the tyres with the same sizes, i just thought going that extra step closer to oem would be a good idea and it was. feels so nice now i can turn the wheel full lock and nothing, its was really bad, could feel it thru the car. My car was miles away from the o/e sizes and never suffered with this skipping you mention, i don't quite see how coming down 10 mm in width of the tyre would cure it. its more down to the geometry than tyre width Have you had the geo looked at, what were/are the figures Edited March 12, 2014 by supraGZaerotop (see edit history)

Branners
Mine does this, usually when it's cold outside so I put it down to the tyre being very cold and hard and just having no grip.
supraGZaerotop
i think thats exactly what it is mate, or worn/very old tyres, the tyres i took off were 2007 and only had 2-3mm on them but they were cracking a bit and just generally toast to be honest.Mine does this, usually when it's cold outside so I put it down to the tyre being very cold and hard and just having no grip.
