Think it's probably something to do with the way the exhaust manifold is routed. That's the reason the scoops on the UK spec aim at the no5 & no6 area of the manifold/head. As the flow wouldn't be the same as the OEM manifold. I honestly don't know. Everyone uses the 6th runner and everyone sings from the same hymn sheet that knows about it. Quite happy to be proved wrong, my EGT is in the 6th runner as it was in JPs car (LeeP put it there, I believe at Ryan G's recommendation... although I could be wrong). As I said, MrT put the bonnet scoop at the 6th runner, so there was clearly something there as standard. It may even have been intake related, firewall related, coolant related, oil flow related, etc, etc, etc. All speculation from my part. There are a few members who have gone to the trouble of putting 6 EGT probes in, for racing etc, just so that they can monitor exactly what's happening... and to my knowledge they all put forward that the 6th cylinder is the hottest. In guessing the 6th cylinder is the hottest because its furthest from the water pump/rad and close to the bulkhead so theres not much airflow round the back of the engine?
