Ian C
Hello all - Soop Dogg helped me swap my rear Ohlins coilovers for Bilstiens tonight, while the Ohlins go off for a rebuild. Finally found a part number on the back of the shocks, but can't seem to find anything on t'web. The part number is CT5-S0200-30 and find attached a piccy Has anyone got any info on these? (springs seem quite mad. Not looking forward to driving it with these on the front and 4-wind Billie's on the back. Methinks I'll not be throwing it around roundabouts much) -Ian
Chris Wilson
Ludicrously too stiff on the spring rate, and the Jap spec Ohlins are junk, I'd bin `em.
JohnA
I've got Ohlins front/rear on my bike and they are sublime. Have they got it wrong on car setups then?
Alex
Ohlins haven't screwed up on their car suspension it's the Japanese, that in CW's opinion, have specced it badly. Smaller shafts and too stiffly sprung...I'm sure the people rebuilding them could sort something out for Chis so they are more European in their specification... Alex
Ian, are they adjustable or not? Have you taken the cap off?
Gaz Walker
Pass the razor blades LOL Haha, it's not like he is gonna be able to sell them now! Gaz.
Alex
Well, said "shit" suspension which "featured" leaking rear dampers...secured Ian the fastest Supra round the handling track at TOTB4. So I think that says enough about the setup
Chris Wilson
The jap made Ohlins are TOTALLY different in design, and made by a TOTALLY different company to European Ohlins. Different beasts altogether. It's probably cheaper to just buy some decent dampers than try and repair / upgrade the ones that are leaking. All IMO. And that of Ohlins Europe .... Ian C
Haha thanks Chris That's given my detractors plenty of ammo lol It's a darn sight cheaper to get two shocks rebuilt than to buy a full set of Ohlins coilovers all round! I like this setup although yes, the springs appear to be ludicrous It's done OK for the last 4 years and you've driven the car yourself Chris I'm quite sure I run out of talent way before the crappy pseudo Ohlins do -Ian
Ian C
Just phoned the bloke that's gonna do the rebuild and he says a) he can rebuild them no problem, and b) they aren't as good as the Euro ones, as they are built under licence in Tokyo, but they aren't quite as bad as Chris is making out It's only a road car! -Ian
gt4tosupra
Which supras came with ohlins instead of bilstein then? Bought a V8 soarer with supra ohlins on. Not collected it yet tho, guess they'll be ok eh?
Chris Wilson
No Supras came with Ohlins on, the option was made under licence Bilsteins, or the stock dampers. The Ohlins you will be thinking of are also made under licence and nothing like the beautiful Swedish made originals. The made under licence ones tend to leak at the shaft seals, and lose their fluid. I can repair them, but it's not a cheap exercise, and probably not worthwhile unless they are in superb cosmetic shape.
gt4tosupra
What car would they have been made under licence for then Chris? Hmm, i may hold fitting the bilstein i bought on here for the tt, and possibly fit them on the V8 then. We will see
Chris Wilson
They were made under licence for all sorts of makes and models.
