Swampy442
These big end bearings came off a Toyota 4A GE engine with a knock, 170k miles. The top half shells have a big, shiney patch on them, the bottom ones look pretty good. Question is, what caused the shiny area, and would this be the cause of the knock? Cheers

Kaan W
That wouldnt be the cause of the knock but the knocking could have caused this I reckon..

Swampy442
For anyone whos interested, and I doubt theres many, changed the big end shells but turns out that wasnt the problem, there was a foreign body in the combustion chamber. absz
What is it, something from the intercooler pipes ??
Swampy442
Si, not really, theres very little impact damage, looks like it got itself into the chamber wall then got embedded in the head/piston. Everything in the chamber, valves, even the spark plug were undamaged. It still runs very sweetly for a 179k mile engine. Absz, its a 1986 Corolla GT, no turbos, or indeed intercoolers
