Guest banshee001
Hello, I have a 1jz engine and i want to put it in a z3, but it wont fit unless the stock twins are replaced with a single... If i replaced with a single do i have to tune?? Thanks
Guest Veilsidedan
Hi mate doing the same thing in a 5 series at the moment, to change anything from stock, ie single turbo ur going to need an aftermarket management system. Syvecs, motec and link are ur best options; personally link for me as ive used them a few times and find them brilliant and easy to set up. Guest banshee001
how about a piggyback? And btw i got an R154 but it wont reach the car's shifter location ... so i need an extension for the shifter around 3" any ideas??
Guest Veilsidedan
Ahhh same as me, r154 but it fits perfectly in a 5 series so I would say a chstom shifter wouldnt be too hard to knock up. I wouldnt use a piggy back as they dont give u the control of a standalone ecu and there just generally not as good in my opinion. Ive never seen a car with a piggybag getting better results than a new ecu.
Guest banshee001
Yea i get what you mean but just for the time being a piggyback would be fine right ?? And i couldnt find any custom shifters around the net... =(

Guest Veilsidedan
I would get one made up or move the motor back 3" if possible as ur already going to be making custom mounts anyways. To be honest I dont even know of any decent piggy backs and for the money u will spend getting one and mapping it ur not far off getting a link or sonething. I paid £800 for my link g4 and its the best money ive spent
pedrosixfour
It was my understanding that the stock ECU from a 1JZ twin was actually capable of running a small single set-up.
mclarenross
Welsh buddy on here was running his fine on here with standard ecu, as long as your not going for huge power you should be fine. bigger injectors would help so it doesnt run lean. I'm about to put Welshbuddy single in my 1JZ and run it on stock ecu for a while and then I'll upgrade to a emanage blue, check out other soarer forums where a lot of people are using the piggyback with great effect, obvioulsy its not as good as a stand alone but you can pick them up for £200 rather than a standalone at £800. It all depends on what power levels you are aiming for.
Guest Veilsidedan
All fine and well in the car its meant to be in but how will he run the dash with a Toyota ecu when its going in a bmw lol. Stand alone is the way forward. I'm presuming the bmw was a six cylinder motor otherwise ur rev counter will show idle at like 5k rpm and rev off the clock lol

I forgot to take that small detail into consideration.
Guest Veilsidedan
Haha I reckon the full conversion will stand me at 5k once completed like
little num
Engine wise the stock ecu will run upto 450bhp with 440 injectors from a 2jz tt, i have been running this for 12 months and done loads of track and driftdays with it running 11.2 on full throttle in high gears. As for dash id have thought its just the rev counter as the ecu dont run speed sensors.
Guest Veilsidedan
Little num I would be interested to see what duty cycle ur injectors are running at that kind of power on 440's. Im going to be running a secondary fuel rail on my 1j with stock injectors in original position and maybe some 800 cc for boost. On my turbo converted mr2 roadster im running 550cc in the standard rail to maintain a nice and smooth idle and in town driving then I have 2 mazda rx7 injectors mounted in my charge cooler for boost whoch are 850cc I believe. Works really well, transition is perfect between then injectors and I am getting around 70bhp more than others with similar set ups.
Guest banshee001
Haha i will use an RPM Gauge for my rpm and a gps as my speedometer LOL anyways thanxx all , i think ill get a single turbo for the engine and ill stay on stock ecu until i get an emanage or so
