s50b30
Hello there. I have a supra that I want to convert to single. Planned mods. Twin fuel pump, 600-800 injectors, FPR, stock engine, with driftmotion or fsr singel kit. I was thinking about tuning it with mapecu2. Nearest tuner is 500km away. Will it be ok to run say 1.3 bar boost on stock timing curve? I think I can get the fueling right with a wideband. But the timing is concerning me. I know I Can control tuning with the mapecu2, but just wondering if stock timing is ok. Powergoal is about 500whp. Thanks for replies! Anyone done something similar? Wez
There was a thread on here last week where someone else did exactly this and as expected the engine had det issues. Do some searching for more info

Luxluc
For 500rwhp (approx 600 bhp), I would go with a proper stand alone EMS. Imo, forget piggy back ECU's. They're OK for BPU, but not for single.

s50b30
Looks like some get det, and some doesnt. I have seen someone running stock ecu, with driftmotion single. Without issue. And other people have tuned with safc, which will advance timing over stock. But still no detonation. How much to come to northern norway ryang? Guest kris.s
Can anyone tell me if this is ok to mapping when I put turbo? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JZA80-Supra-2JZ-GTE-Gizzmo-MS-2-Fuel-Cut-Defender-E-Boost-Controller-/150694155602?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2316125552 Thanks, and sorry for OT. tooquicktostop
I ran 550 bhp on stock ECU and 2 additional injectors controlled by a HKS injector controller, just dumped fuel in based on throttle position, I would not run like that again but many did in Japan. s50b30
How come? With piggyback you have control over fuel and timing. Chris: no, thats a boost controller.

Tricky-Ricky
I have no experience of Map2 but i have run around 550BHP on a GT4088 using an Emanage ultimate, but a word of advice if your intending to tune yourself, you cannot tune to that level without adjusting the ignition timing, its not done on just fueling alone. s50b30
Is there any scientific way to tune timing, without knock control? Do egt give any feedback on timing?
mellonman
you need a rolling road or 2 persons with acuite hearing for det with det cans / knock sensors, what you are doing is setting your self up for a expensive bill on a engine rebuild if you cut corners on a ecu or mapping , i thought the map2ecu had timing control get a mapper

s50b30
The mapecu2 has timing control. My only reason to go with piggyback over standalone, is that I would prefer to tune myself. Because of travel distance to tuner. And I thought since people say that the 2jzgte jdm timing is really conservative, one would get away with only fuel trim for larger injectors. Also since people are making 600whp on afc, which ADVANCES timing. It thought it would be safe to do it on a mapecu2, since it can leave the timing as it is. What fuel is it the jdm 2jzgte is supposed to run on anyway? We have 98 (ron?) Here.

What fuel is it the jdm 2jzgte is supposed to run on anyway? We have 98 (ron?) Here. What your not taking into consideration is that if you use an AFC to compensate for larger injectors, because you removing fuel the std ECU then increases the timing advance, however that doesn't mean that there is no det present, its quite possible that the std ECU is detecting det and as a result has reverted to the default (retarded) timing map, which may explain whey those running 600BHP on the AFC are getting away with it. I would also ask it that a verified 600BHP? as with the timing pulled i would question that figure, as i said in order to tune sensibly and get the best from whatever engine/turbo mods you need to also address the ignition timing. s50b30
Dont know about them being verified. But 600whp on safc, which advances timing. And my possible 500whp, with stock ignition curve. But it might not be that easy.
Ian C
Well, it sounds like you've made up your mind before you asked for advice, so run it on a mapecu2 and let us know how it goes

Just looking for someone with experience with something simular. I will be running the twins this year anyway, so now rush. Does anyone know what octane 2jzgte is supposed to run on from the factory?
