hadyn
After a few runs down bovingdon, I have developed a very nasty rattle coming from the middle of my underside of the car. I've recently had a new tanabe zorst fitted, and basically when i tap the underside of the midsection of the zorst that joins the back box I can hear the vibration noise resonating through. It sounds like a rock or something is loose in the zorst? You can also hear the rattle for a second when the engine is off and you close the passenger door. Could this possibly be a loose debri in the zorst? Bovingdon did have a few bits and pieces flying around on its surface!
mikeyb10supra
Are you full De-cat??? I had the same problem....check the condition of your cats....the insides can perish over time and start rattling around.

Jake
How would a rock get inside your exhaust? The description sounds like the noise you get when a baffle breaks inside the silencer.
hadyn
there was lots of stuff flying around at bovingdon jake, lots of people got big stonechips on their car and windscreens. The backbox when tapped doesnt seem to make the rattle, its coming from the seperate pipe that bolts between the backbox and the decat section
Jake
Very odd mate. You're sure it's not touching a heat shield somewhere? I'd whip the exhaust off and see if anything falls out when it's tipped up at 90° I still can't see how a rock could get into the exhaust, unless you were reversing up the runway
hadyn
Funny thing is it what making a similar although not so severe noise as this with the old exhaust on at certain rev ranges, which just suddenly dissapeared?
michael
Probably a chunk of ceramic trying to find it's way to safety from your turbo. *Removes grim reaper coat and runs*
hadyn
Still boosting fine?
michael
I was jesting, I'm with Jake that's it's probably a heat shield or a baffle.
hadyn
surely it cant be the baffles on a 4 week old system?
Paul Whiffin
Are the turbos still boosting ok? If not could be an exhaust wheel stuck in your box....normally they fly out the back though when your fully decatted!
Bobbeh
Probably a chunk of ceramic trying to find it's way to safety from your turbo. *Removes grim reaper coat and runs* Sounds very odd tho, how would the exhaust suck up a stone when its blowing gasses out!? hadyn
Right this noise is driving me crazy, i can literally hear it in my head now. It rattles on idle and throughout the rev range on and off boost. It never seems to stop rattling. I've noticed that if i tap the backbox with my foot with the engine off i can hear the rattle. I can also hear the rattle with the engine off when i close the passenger door. Its very hard to locate exactly where this noise is coming from as sometimes its sounds like its at the front pipe area. Im presuming though thats its baffles, due to it resonating the rattle with the engine off when i tap the back box or pipework Surely a japanese built backbox wouldnt be that duff??? I'll get a mechanic to have a look at when I come back from holiday, and if it is baffles it'll have to be returned to Paul E unfortunately, as baffles going after 4 weeks is unacceptable really
hadyn
And its still going well, boosts all the way to 1 bar, and i recorded a 0-60 of 4.8 on the Apexi rsm, so it cant be duff tubbies can it?
Bobbeh
Why not just take it to a garage/tyre fitter etc with a ramp and ask them to take it off/inspect it, wont take long
hadyn
Thats what im going to do when i come back off holiday mate
Bobbeh
Good job sir, it may just be something inside the silencer or something further down.
