Josh42
Little update for you. I've been cleaning up the head a little and regrinding the valves today. What a long and drawn out process that is! Getting there now. I have settled on the rest of my spec and have ordered the appropriate parts including my standalone ECU:) Can't wait to get done and drive the thing! Fly
Looking cracking mate, I did the same with the head and the valves, what a pain!! Though I did find fuel and a toothbrush is ideal for cleaning the outside
Rich.2211
My valve grinding stick lives on How much of a sack-ache is it when the little rubber end either pops off or unsticks itself from the valve!?

Josh42
I've finally finalised my spec list and I'm making great progress in pulling all of this together now! I'm looking at a mapping date of11th April-can't wait! I'm also due receipt of my ECU Master EMU Standalone unit either today or tomorrow. Lyndon's been great with this and I'd highly recommend his services to anyone! The ECU will be giving me permanent built in wideband, EGT, 4 bar map sensor among many other great features:) -traction control(I have no ABS so it utilises gearbox ration vs diff ration to detect wheelspin), -boost by gear control to aid with keeping my W58 in one piece and -launch control Edited February 11, 2014 by Josh42 (see edit history)

Fly
I think it's one of Lyndon's own units
Nodalmighty
I think it's one of Lyndon's own units I wish, EMU (as in the bird) is a ECU Master product. Josh forgot to include, Dual EGT fueling correction, Dual Wide Band closed loop knock, Anti Lag and Flat Shift, E85 Fuel Blender (can be used for C16 etc.) and a million other features like VVTi and TBW control. I think it can also make your car fly but I took that with a pinch of salt. ;-) Lyndon.
j_jza80
Sounds like a great ECU The EMU name makes me think someone wanted their ECU to show up under Emanage Ultimate searches on't interweb.

You might think that but the only way I can find ECU Master site is by looking for it. I only spotted this system as they being sold on ebay. I offer it as an alternative for those who want all the high end features but can't afford an expensive ecu in the £1000+ bracket. Lyndon. Dan_Turism0
http://www.ecumaster.com/en/products/engine-management-unit guessing it's this first search result for "EMU ecu" out of interest who is going to map the ecu for you? Nodalmighty
http://www.ecumaster.com/en/products/engine-management-unit guessing it's this first search result for "EMU ecu" Yep that's it, read the spec (Anti Lag is something he did for me for my rally car customers so this is not on the feature list yet). But then I never think of the e-manage ultimate as EMU as it's too all encompassing. Lyndon.
Josh42
Lyndon will be mapping this himself as he's only about 2 miles away from me:) Indeed, I was originally going to go with an emanage ultimate, however once I'd done a little research and spoken with Lyndon, I was keen to pursue this standalone unit. It should enable me to run a nice reliable and well controlled setup in conjunction with Paul's NA-T kit without breaking the bank or smashing too many w58's! Josh42
So over the last week or so I've been pretty busy with the build. I've painted the bottom end, removed the old oil pump, the no.1 and no.2 oil pans and I'm currently cleaning everything up ready to fit new shiny bits from Steve Manley. All is coming together well and I'm hoping to be in a position to fit the engine the start of April. Here are some pics for you:) The girlfriend cleaning up the mating surface for me:) Pesky crank sprocket off! I used a pulley draw I fashioned from an old brake pad, a piece of wood and two long M6 bolts. Old oil pump off too. Will be fitting the new one later on today hopefully:)

Josh42
Lyndon sent me a cheeky teaser pic of my EMU and wideband the other day. I told him he was a tease and it's spurred me on to get the rest done quicker. Really looking forward to boost now.

dr_jekyll
so your going oem na pistons with the tt gasket? what boost are you hoping to run?
Josh42
Only a max of a bar really utilising the boost by gear settings on the EMU to protect my fragile W58! Will be happy with BPU power with single delivery:) I've also gone for a RPS Max clutch with street disc which is a full faced organic friction disc to reduce shock on the box.
