The plate and flywheel in position

image

Here is the box, we took off a couple of bits off the side which were just to bolt the loom on.

Also one of the mounting holes which was for the Lexus starter as it stuck out a long way and wasn't needed

Other than that it fits surprising well in the tunnel

No mods to the car needed at all

Another pic of the box before it went in and a nice cutaway pic so you can see the workings :)

We made a spacer to support and locate the torque converter, this will possible be part of the flywheel in future.

Gearbox in position, we made a custom mount which will be CNC machined in future.

Next fun job for me was wiring

We got the plugs and a length of wire with the gearbox which was handy

It only has two plugs, one control plug and the gear selector switch

The wiring came with the plastic mouldings to bolt the loom to the box which made it a really nice OEM finish

Ryan helped me out with a pin out for the control plug to S6 plus

I then did some digging and worked out the selector plug.

So final fitted pics, we modified the stock selector arm and that works great.

Only needs to go from park to drive as the rest is done on the paddles

Front part of the prop modified so this will be a simple exchange part and rear section stays stock.

Fits really great in there.

Let's wait to see how much these cost :D I can't imagine there's too many ISF boxes going spare, and I bet they're hideously expensive new :D

Yeah I haven't checked the price new I dread to think lol...

I have two other boxes to hand so will see what the interest is like first.

The boxes I have will be around £2000

Very interesting project!

Lee how much torque/hp is the is-f rated for?

Just like the stock supra auto it has a fairly conservative torque rating, the supra box we have reliably run 550ftlb 600hp for some time

The 8 speed is rated higher so we expect it will take a fair bit more

As with all auto boxes, heat is the key so coolers are a must

Will have to see at what point it becomes an issue but I'm

So probably a little cheaper than a 6 speed swap, *if* you already have or need a syvecs?

Can't wait to see some footage. Will the regular IS 6 speed boxes work with this kit?

By the time you factor in other parts probably more but with most 6 speed conversions running power you also need a decent clutch as well. This is where it will even out and I expect it to be around the same or cheaper

Will know once we produce the final versions of the mount and prop

Having been lucky enough to see parts of this coming together I have to say I'm very impressed! Seeing the guys work and watching some of the development of this project really does show you just how good they are! Happy to see it all together, as are you I suspect Lee!

Oh and that flywheel setup; the pics just don't do it justice! True engineering porn right there!

First drive with the 8 speed conversion :)

Just on Ryan's base calibration at the moment but still drives really good.

Full mapping is next week then we can really test it.

Tim at JT has updated the toucan firmware so we can now display the 8 gears.
