antony lacey
Guys anyone got any idea what could be wrong with my van? It's a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 cdti 57 reg So I went to work today 60 mile round trip, got 10 miles from home and it just cut out Coasted to a stop tried to re start but would not fire Whilst contemplating what to do and a few phone calls 20 minutes later it started !! Great I can get home in the snow without a tow ... No.. 5 miles from home cut out again, waited 10 min started again!! got 1 mile cut out again And this carried on until I finally got home There was no warning when it cut out, or warning lights, had not overheated, I put fresh fuel in between cut outs as it has not been used since Christmas Day and didn't have much in, all fluids are topped up I have done a search and fuel pump comes up most but would it not just pack up? Any help would be appreciated
Porky1978
My old Corsa 1.7tdi did this once. Turned out to be a clogged fuel filter.
Westcoaster
Check the water trap in the fuel filter, had this stop a Yaris diesel in cold weather, as the water had turned to ice!
Paul
I had the fuel injection relay do this on and old Ford, turned out to be a resistor in it that packed up when the thing warmed up, thermal breakdown. Same symptons as yours, at the time it was only £15 to replace so worth a crack?
antony lacey
Thanks for the replies guys will check them all out Paul, something like that sounds most likely as the longer I leave it the further I get before it cuts out again
Benjy
Get it plugged in. If it comes up "governer spill valve" something or other, it'll be the little ECU on the top of the engine. Gets hot, PCB inside warps breaking contacts, van misbehaves.
