hodge
I've noticed there's a few guys in the US using an electric water pump. I'm not thinking of doing it myself but was just wondering what the benefits of these are apart from 1 less pulley on the drive belt. Wez
Pros : Sustained flow regardless of RPM, ability to run while engine is off, less loading on engine. Cons : Extra drain on battery, finding one that is suitably reliable and has high enough flow
Lee P
More drain on battery system and more chance of it failing. Risky on a road car but if you don't drive it much would probably be ok. The extra pull from the alternator would probaly counter act the saving though.
David P
Two years ago I fitted a Meziere electric pump because I wanted to run the pulley the other way. I have since changed the belt configuration and now that asset is not necessary, yet the unit has operated without fault. For me it'd pay for itself if/when the supercharger throws a belt, which it hasn't done yet. Once fitted it's a simple job to replace.
