Benjy
Went in to Toyota today to see about some bearings for the crank mains and big ends and apparently I have to measure the crank? Has anybody else heard of this? And is it just better to get some uprated ones, or will the crank need measuring too? £180 a set + vat was sort of swaying me towards paying a little more for some uprated ones! Scooter
If it helps there are marks on the mains and or crank (I forget which) that tell you what size you need...........

Kaan W
I thought the sizes were for wear of the journals over the years and assumed you just get the next size bearings and have your crank reground to the same size.

With any engine you build you should plastiguage to check the bearing clearance, thats what we do anyway.

"Regrind" bearings (if available) will still be graded.

Just picked up a nice set of lightened and balanced con rods, so will probably be in touch soon mate. Cheers!

Chris Wilson
The crank / block grading is only applicable to new engines on the production line. Once the crank wears the micron differences in shell thickness become pretty irrelevant and unless you have a given grade and Plastigauge to play with you may find it simpler to buy after market shells that are not graded, and take away all that stress
