water injection

Water injection is all about lowering intake charge temps and therefore combustion chamber temps, not raising the octane or anything. Methanol is used because it sucks more heat out of the charge than water, not because it's a high octane.

If you've got a trick system, like the Aquamist one with the flow sensor, you can use your ECU to advance ignition timing or increase boost when there is flow. The extra cooling effect means you'll be able to do this without det. If the ECU detects a flow failure, or even too much flow (i.e. water has run out, hose has popped off), it can revert the timing/boost back to non-WI levels.

I figured you could do something like this with the EMU by hooking the flow sensor up to the intake temp sensor, finding our the flow ranges, and alerting ignition timing in the intake temp map to suit. Never got around to doing it though, maybe this year hah.

how have you setup the syvecs to control WI?

- run a more aggressive map when its got water

- run a less aggressive map when its empty

The Syvecs is configured to activate WI over 10 deg inlet temps, 70% throttle and 0.8bar boost.

I have no feedback as my system is based on the old Aquamist 1s system, its only there as an added safety barrier and its not mapped for. I have a switch on the dash to manually over-ride the activation and also have a little LED that illuminates to let me know when the pump is active.

Looks like all the questions have been answered but from memory as it was a long time ago, jet placement changes what the WI is basically used for.

Close to cylinder is for in-cylinder cooling, further away is for charge cooling, there are tests done with jets mounted pre turbo, post turbo but pre intercooler etc etc.

As already mentioned you can split the system and have multiple jets, ie one post intercooler and one pre throttle, I did buy the extra jets to try this but never got round to it as my WI hardly gets used with the Syvecs taking care of everything.

On another note, when using the WI with a 50/50 water/meth mix, V-Power and some octane booster I experienced misfires on high boost, around 1.6bar, switching off the WI cured it, possibly the combination of WI and octane booster gave too much protection and the spark wasnt strong enough. Sure enough without octane booster and WI switched back on there was no misfire.

Thanks, that's a good way of setting it up. I know the AEM can be controlled by the syvecs too - may get Ryan to set it up at some point.
