Coming home tonight steady away and the car starts misfiring so as I'm trying to find a place to pull over it gets a lot worse, it starts banging as if something is smacking about inside the block then it starts only running on 5 pistons maybe less? What could this be? It ticks over with a very loud tap I'm very worried could I of drop a valve? Plus I had to choice as to drive her home :(

Ooh, doesn't sound good. Is there no way you could have left the car?

Well it wasn't too far away from my house where it started to happen 2 miles maybe a little more, what could it be? I will be removing the head tomorrow and taking a closer look. I'm more annoyed by the that I've only owned the thing 2 months if that!

Are you NA, TT, Auto?

Yeah all fluid levels are closely watched so nothing has ever run low. If the crank pulley was to go would it of make a banging noise as if something was bouncing about in the block? If it is the crank pulley would the engine be a rebuild or could you simply replace the pulley or would I be looking at a new crankshaft?

The pulley is replaceable, look at it to see visually if it's ok, if it does do the tipex test, it's a 2 part pulley and when they start to go/go the 2 parts slip then the pulley is failing:

Or look on the undertray to see it is in 2 pieces like this:

But if that's the case normally you can tell with the power steering feeling heavy, is there any belt squeak at all?

If you need a new one here is the part no: 13407-46020

So what's state of play? Have you pulled the spark plugs out? 5 and 6 are an arse to get out and the intake will have to come off. I'd check for water in 5 and 6 and see if that's the reason for the loss of power.

Mine did this once.

As stated the chances if you killing that engine are remote but if you have it's a massive bill to get a new engine!!!!!!!!..... One hundred and fifty English pounds :)

I will have a look at the crank pulley but it did sound as if a valve dropped into the cylinder. Does anybody know how much pistons, valves and maybe the cylinder head would cost from dealership?

If that's the case.

Dont even bother going that route, a bare heads over £1k

Just pull the motor and drop another na lump in there or

find a tt lump and convert to turbo power.

i can imagine that rebuilding the damaged parts on my na would be cheaper than dropping a GTE in there?
