hadyn
Quick question, do auto flywheels rattle like their manual counter-parts? I know that manual flywheels rattle, but what about the autos?
SimonB
It's not actually the flywheel that rattles on a manual, it's the gearbox. It's just caused by aftermarket lightweight flywheels not having the damping that the standard one does. So no, an auto won't...

eyefi
auto's dont really have a flywheel as such. what's the problem?
Chris Wilson
The inertia a manual cars flywheel gives is more than countered by the huge weight of an oil filled torque convertor on an automatic car, so the "flywheel" is just a tin, flexible metal plate to hold the starter ring gear, aloow a tiny bit of movement of the TC, axially, and take the torque loads the engine needs. The flywheel on 99% of autos is called "flex-plate" for that reason, and is very light indeed compared to a true, clutch faced, flywhee. Flex plates sometimes crack.
