Simon
I've used search but cannot find a definitive answer to the following. How exactly does the temp sensor just before the 2nd cat affect any other system parameters. So when I replace the exhaust from 1st cat back (leaving the first cat in place for the moment) and if there isn't a receptor for the temp sensor, then what, if any, is the affect to the rest of the cars systems by this just being tied up out of the way. Obviously it measure the exhaust temp just before the second cat but what uses this information? If anyone can help or point me to a definitive answer I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. THOR Racing
The Japanese have a strange law that means they have to sense the temperature of the underside of the car body. The hottest part being the CAT exhaust. This is apparently because they have a lot of dry grass verges in Japan and it's the risk of fire. So it's there to detect a too high a temperature which would cause the verge to ignite. (sounds daft but apparently true) Anyway for your purposes it doesn't matter what you do with it. Just leave it connected to the loom connector and tie it up out of the way. (it does not have to be inserted into the exhaust as it serves us in the UK no useful purpose. eyefi
it makes a light come on on the dash if the cats get too hot. dont worry about it, just dont cut it off. pete, id b interested where u heard that story
Nathan
I agree with Eyefi...I think Pete is having a 1st class windup here... .....and I also agree that usually just tying it up (but still connected) will be OK in the soop. Some cars don't like it at all (only this morning we did a GTO that pinged it's light on) but I've never had problems with Supras. Nathan
Hang on a minute.....just re-read your post...if you are doing 1st-cat back then you've got nothing to worry about anyway! There aren't any sensors on the Jap spec 2nd cat pipe. Cheers, Nathan TDI PLC

Need4Speed
I don't know about the function of the sensor being to stop grass fires, but cat exhausts can do this.
THOR Racing
Honestly I kid you not. The japanese regulations state this. It's because they have a number of grass only roads. I've asked the Vehicle Certification Aurthority to confirm this, but I do know 100% that all Jag's exported to Japan have to have the CAT Temp sensor fitted (and I'm sure it's for the reason above) Regards Pete
